Field worker – ACT5 Study


The Woolcock Institute is lung health research organisation, based at Sydney University, Australia (http://www.woolcock.org.au/). The Institute has operated in Vietnam since 2009, we undertake large and important operational and epidemiological and clinical research projects in collaboration with the National Tuberculosis Program in 9 Provinces, including Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City. The Woolcock also runs training in epidemiological and operational research methods for Vietnamese doctors and public health workers. Currently the Woolcock directly employs 70 full-time staff across the Vietnam. We are recruiting a highly motivated and experienced Field Worker to participate in the implementation of the ACT5 study. Location: Based in Ca Mau, with regular travel to sites Duration: 12 months appointment, with consideration for subsequent extension. The position will be on a full-time basis. Roles: To support the implementation of the ACT5 study in Ca Mau. The role includes:
  • To work with a study manager closely and also with whole study team throughout the study.
  • To contribute to medical assessment and treatment aspects of the study based on the discussion with a study manager
  • To engage with relevant stakeholders and assist their efforts together with the relationship manager.
  • To prepare and participate in all workshops, trainings and meetings related to the study.
  • Any other additional tasks if required.

  • Study Officer

  • Local financial controller
  • Senior field staff
  • Technical managers (such as Laboratory staff)
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop and strengthen key partnerships and relationships with relevant organisations within Ca Mau Province. Liaise the local, district and provincial authorities on issues regarding fieldwork.
  • Participate in relevant training on research protocol, methods and techniques for data collection
  • Develop field work plan
  • Prepare for screening activities: prepare consumables, equipment, joining pre-screening trip, conduct health promotion activities
  • Recruit study participants into the study and get consent from participants to participate in the research
  • Participate in collecting quantitative data as required in the field, ensure that the protocol is strictly followed
  • Support the organization of qualitative study as required
  • Complete data forms accurately and timely
  • Communicate issues occurred in the field timely for the study manager for solutions
  • Support the organization of meetings, conferences administratively and financially
  • Support the filing of study documents (both hard and soft copies)
  • Advance and clear advance budget for screening activities
  • Ensure efficient expenditure of resources
  • Ensuring appropriate financial control processes are followed
  • Foster a community of learning and teamwork, continuous quality improvement and continuous professional development for staff
  • Working closely with the study team
  • Support the development of study correspondence to partners
  • To perform other duties if required.
Key attributes
  • Degree in Public Health or health-related field
  • Experience in quantitative research
  • Experience working with data to improve study outcomes
  • Ability to communicate fluently in Vietnamese.
  • Ability to work within a team
  • A motivator with good listening skills
  • Focused, but flexible approach
  • Willingness to work hard
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail
