Position: Legal Assessment Consultant

Introduction of Save Vietnam’s Wildlife:
Save Vietnam’s Wildlife is a National Non-Profit organisation in Vietnam that was established in 2014.
Mission: Save Vietnam’s Wildlife works to stop the extinction and champion the recovery of threatened species in Vietnam.
Aims:
Delivering effective education programs to empower people to take informed action.
Working with Government to effect positive, long-lasting change for wildlife.
Rescuing, rehabilitating, and releasing confiscated threatened wildlife in support of wild populations, as well as demonstrating and promoting good animal welfare.
Increasing understanding of conservation requirements of threatened wildlife through rigorous scientific research.
Ensuring the wildlife habitats are fully protected and local communities are engaged to protect wildlife.
Expected starting date: As soon as possible.
Salary: Generous daily pay, all project costs covered
Duration: Short (10 days maximum) consultancy
Responsibilities of Legal Assessment Consultant:
- SVW is seeking an experienced professional, with background in local civil society operations in Vietnam, to provide an assessment of the legal and regulatory opportunities and barriers to establishing a set of large, species-focused, wildlife conservation breeding facilities in Vietnam.
- Working with a technical expert in ex-situ species recovery programmes, the consultant will produce a short report detailing: the operational and legal environments in which wildlife centres in Vietnam currently work in, the opportunities for expansion within the current system, and a feasibility assessment for the long-term lease of state-owned land by a local civil society organisation.
The assessment will include land in:
Cuc Phuong National Park
Pu Mat National Park
Bi Doup National Park
State-owned land/forestry enterprises near Cuc Phuong National Park, Pu Mat National Park, Bi Doup National Park and Da Nang
Essential qualifications and skills:
- In-country person
- Proven background in managing/establishing, local civil society organisations in Vietnam, particularly in the fields of biodiversity conservation or forestry
And/or proven background in providing legal advice to local civil society organisations in Vietnam, particularly in the lease of state-owned land/forestry concessions
- Proven connections to relevant ministries, particularly MARD and MoNRE
- Excellent written English
