Plan International is an international child and youth development organization dedicated to promoting the realization of children and young people’s rights, especially girl’s rights, in both development and humanitarian settings.
The Young Health Programme (YHP) aims to support the health rights and wellbeing of young people in marginalized communities worldwide through research, advocacy and on-the-ground programmes focused on the prevention of non-communicable diseases (NCDs). Since 2010, with the support from AstraZeneca, Plan International (UK) has implemented the YHP in Zambia, Brazil, India, Kenya, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, Colombia, Egypt and Myanmar.
YHP Vietnam aims to reach 45,000 young people directly, 650,000 young people and 1,000,000 people in the wider community indirectly with information on NCD prevention. Apart from traditional means of communication, social media communication through selected social media channels and communication campaign is crucial in order to meet these targets; especially, when children cannot go to school because of the COVID19 lockdown. Through this strategy, the programme aims to enhance awareness of the harmful and inter-generational effects of NCD risk factors and to establish the buy-in of the community to facilitate change. The programme is working with primary schools, secondary schools, high schools, three universities and industrial zone inns in Hai Ba Trung and Dong Anh Districts to increase awareness of NCDs and NCD risk factors among young people and communities that the YHP is working with directly.
