Post-Doc Scientist


The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) seeks to recruit a Post-doctoral scientist to ensure robust and efficient facilitation and delivery on food safety and One Health research in Vietnam, Cambodia, Bangladesh and other countries of East and South East Asia. ILRI works to improve food and nutritional security and reduce poverty in developing countries through research for efficient, safe and sustainable use of livestock. It is the only one of 15 CGIAR research centres dedicated entirely to animal agriculture research for the developing world. Co-hosted by Kenya and Ethiopia, it has regional or country offices and projects in East, South and Southeast Asia as well as Central, East, Southern and West Africa. www.ilri.org Responsibilities
  • Conduct research on food safety, pork value chain intervention, zoonotic diseases, human and animal health at ILRI South and South East Asia and its partners in Vietnam, Cambodia and Bangladesh
  • Oversee and participate in field activities centred on food safety/zoonoses  (multi-hazards survey, quantitative risk assessment and interventions) and One Health in the region
  • To build capacity in understanding food safety risk, its management and effective communication among stakeholders including key government partners, the private sector, academia, donors and media.
  • Build collaborations with relevant institutions and organizations to address One Health issues.
  • Advice and lead publication of relevant food safety and zoonoses research
  • Supervise graduate students of ILRI partners involved in research projects
Requirements
  • PhD in Epidemiology (public health, veterinary science or related field)
  • Proven record in conducting food safety and livestock value chain research in development initiatives and veterinary epidemiology research projects
  • Experience in the design of quantitative risk assessments, participatory methods such as participatory epidemiology and the theory of behaviour nudges is an advantage
  • Ability to manage both field and laboratory projects, in particular related to food microbiology
  • Ability to work independently and accurately in the work
  • Able to cope with heavy intermittent workloads extending beyond office hours and to travel and work at project sites if the need arises
  • Able to supervise graduate students of ILRI partners involved in projects
  • Publication record (peer reviewed paper) is an advantage
  • Very good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent written and spoken English, knowing of relevant regional languages is an advantage
Post location: The position will be based in Hanoi, Vietnam Terms of Appointment This is position is at job level HG 16 and it is open to both national and international applicants.
