Visitors Centre, Division of External Relation
UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, is offering an internship position within the Social Media Section in our headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.
UNHCR is a global organization dedicated to saving lives, protecting rights and building a better future for refugees, forcibly displaced communities and stateless people. Every year, millions of men, women and children are forced to flee their homes to escape conflict and persecution. We are present in 134 countries, using our expertise to protect and care for millions.
UNHCRs Visitors' Centre receives thousands of people every year (individual visitors and groups). Many of the visiting groups are study groups of diverse levels (e.g. government delegations, diplomats, academics, university students, secondary school students, military officers, NGOs, private sector companies, etc). They come to UNHCR from all over the world in order to learn more about UNHCR s mandate, role, structure, operations and diverse activities. The Visitors¿ Centre organizes presentations and/or lectures for these groups (by appointment only).
UNHCR is looking for an individual with a wide range of skills, experience in communications-related projects and a strong interest in the work of the organization to support our public outreach work through the Visitors¿ Centre.

Accountability:
Gain unique knowledge about UNHCR¿s global role, capabilities, programs, and impact, and the role of communications and outreach in achieving UNHCR¿s mandate
Responsibilities:
Assist with the planning and coordination of group visits
Assist with the preparation of group-specific programmes
Preparation of appropriate briefing material for participants (if required)
Receive visitors and being mindful of the image conveyed
When necessary, update public information leaflets (mainly in English and French) and/or assist with the production of publications for the Visitors¿ Centre
Essential minimum qualifications required:
In order to be considered for an internship, candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria:
Be either a recent graduate (having completed their studies within one year of applying) or a current student in a graduate/undergraduate school programme from a university or higher education facility accredited by UNESCO; and
Have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field relevant or of interest to the work of UNHCR
Please note that candidates who have immediate relatives (father, mother, son, daughter, brother or sister) working as staff members of UNHCR are not eligible to apply.
Desirable qualifications:
- Must be interested in communications, advocacy or external relations work
- Must possess social media skills
- Knowledge of Photoshop, WordPress software, editing and graphic design tools (or an interest in learning them) is an advantage
- Excellent communication skills (both spoken and written)
Languages:
- Fluent English (written and oral) is mandatory
- Fluent French (written and oral) is highly desirable
- Chinese desirable
- Any other language is an asset
Other requirements:
- Good organizational and time management skills
- Good interpersonal skills
- Excellent computer skills (MS office suite)
- Interest in the humanitarian cause

Location:
The successful candidate will be based with the team in the Geneva, Switzerland.
Conditions & Allowances:
It is a full-time role with working hours starting from 9.00am to 6:00pm Monday to Friday (40 hours per week).
Allowance:
Interns who do not receive financial support from an outside party will receive an allowance to partially help to cover the cost of food, local transportation and living expenses.
