Business Development Capacity Strengthening Specialist

The Opportunity

Save the Children International has an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as the Business Development Capacity Strengthening Specialist in UK or a specific existing Save The Children International location (subject to confirmation).

ROLE PURPOSE:

Save the Children has agreed an ambitious new global strategy for 2022-24 and has developed an accompanying Global Funding Framework to inform and shift how SCA can work together as a movement to drive greater funding impact for children. By 2024 our ambition is for Save the Children to be a $3bn plus organisation, with institutional funding constituting around 60% of this income. Enhancing our current New Business Development (NBD) best practice, skills, and behaviours will be critical to achieving this ambition.

This new role will be part of the Programme Funding & Institutional Partnerships (PFIP) team at Save the Children International (SCI), which is working across the Save the Children Movement to optimise and align our global-to-country programme funding portfolio, share global analysis and learning across and amongst stakeholders, and build capacity and capability to successfully pursue competitive institutional funding opportunities.

This new role will be responsible for developing significant new capacity building and professional development materials specifically for NBD staff working in SCI and the Movement as a whole, providing best practice leadership to specialist Communities of Practice and working groups, as well as tracking the impact of these new NBD learning and resourcing initiatives.

The successful post holder will be an experienced business development profession with a clear passion for developing the BD skills of others, keen to drive relevant thought leadership and best practice in this area, and have proven experience in developing effective learning initiatives at scale. The post holder will need to quickly and effectively develop strong working relationships with others across the movement: particularly with Award Management and Program Quality & Impact colleagues at SCI Centre, with Resource Mobilisation teams at Regional Offices, with Country Office NBD colleagues, as well with those in Members. The role includes significant stakeholder engagement at all levels of seniority across the movement to ensure buy-in and support, co-creation of learning initiatives with key stakeholders, and specialist leadership within and across numerous existing groups and communities.

In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

  • Proven expertise in successful New Business Development and/or fundraising in the international aid development context - including working within a complex matrixed organisation (such as the Save the Children movement).
  • Demonstrable experience in the effective design and delivery of a range of NBD/fundraising related specialist learning interventions - including face-to-face and virtual learning delivery (ideally also in the international aid development context).
  • Similarly experienced in analysing and determining learning needs/objectives in complex and dynamic operating context globally.
  • Exceptional communication, presentation, and relationship building skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills: collaborative, flexible, patient, and able to communicate clearly and effectively under pressure.
  • An energetic, proactive, and solution-orientated approach, able to work independently and use initiative to see opportunities to achieve results.
  • Ability to plan ahead and work under pressure to meet deadlines with strong attention to detail.
  • Exceptional Office365 skills and ability to learn and use other systems.
  • Team player, with a full appreciation of the value of collaboration.
  • Commitment to the mission, vision and values of Save the Children.

Desirable:

  • Experience of working in / across other areas of SC’s operations and / or functions.
  • Experience designing e-learning modules (inc associated delivery/software platforms).
  • Experience and understanding across a range of SC’s key institutional donors (eg. USAID, INTPA, SIDA, ECHO, UNICEF).

We can offer circa £49,000 per annum (If based in UK) with an option of flexible working hours. If the role is based outside of the UK, National T&C (including pay) will apply.

This role can be based in UK or at a specific existing Save The Children International (subject to confirmation) Regional or Country office location on approval, provided the successful candidate has proof of eligibility to work from the preferred location.
