Organizational Setting
The Position:
The Civil Society Coordinator is located in the Strategic Partnerships Branch(SPB) in the Division of Communications and Strategic Partnerships(DCS). The incumbent will collaborate across teams engaging with civil society partners and will report to the Chief, Strategic Partnerships Branch.

In the face of developmental challenges in Pakistan, including gaps in fulfilment of women's reproductive health and rights, the need for significant expansion of infrastructure and services to serve a larger population, the difficulty in achieving education goals with the growth of its school-aged population and a less favorable age structure for economic development, UNFPA is seeking candidates that transform, inspire and deliver high impact and sustained results; we need principled and ethical staff, who embody human rights norms and standards, and who will defend them courageously and with full conviction; we need staff who are transparent, exceptional in how they manage the resources entrusted to them and who commit to deliver excellence in programme results.
Job Purpose:
In line with UNFPA's Strategic Plan 2018-2021 and the Strategic Partnerships Framework, the Civil Society Coordinator(CSC) supports the establishment of a conducive environment for UNFPA's mandate, leading the strategic positioning of the UNFPA agenda with Civil Society partners. In this role, the Coordinator will be a visible, consistent and reliable internal and external entry point for CS to UNFPA with a view of expanding the community of support to the ICPD Agenda: therefore the CSC creates sustainable coalitions that advance the organizations multilateral affairs agenda and serves as advocate for UNFPA within the CS community. Identifying opportunities for aligning and amplifying specific CS perspectives and priorities with the work of UNFPA, the CSC builds trust with a vital community of partners, ensures relevance and consistency of UNFPA engagements with Civil Society, and will take necessary actions to generate broad support and the advocacy base within the Civil Society community to expand the organization's reach and capacity to deliver.
Main Tasks & Responsibilities
A. UNFPA agenda positioning
Creates a visible, consistent and trusted entry point to UNFPA for CS partners that builds and nurtures sustainable relationships and advances the organization's agenda. Seeks new and specific shared goals and opportunities with relevant and/or CS partners, who will be able to influence policy makers and promotes UNFPA as a champion in achieving these common objectives. Leverages CS relationships and insights on their priorities to inform and influence both strategic partnership and programme policy formulation and decision making. Provides a responsive service to CS that faithfully advocates on their issues internally, intervenes, clarifies and resolves their issues, building UNFPA's reputation as a sought-after partner among CS for getting work done. Identifies opportunities for resource mobilization that accelerate programme goals and extend institutional reach in critical programme areas. Represents UNFPA at select CS events where agenda promotion, institutional visibility and partnership management are required.
B. Development and Management of Strategic Partnerships with Civil Society
Creates mapping and institutional scanning of the Civil Society environment, identifying and advising senior management on critical leverage points, risks and opportunities Establishes a repository for Civil Society information including institutional profiles, key actors and events that inform planning and engagements by teams across the organization. Critically assesses and consolidates Civil Society interventions and partnership outreach outcomes across UNFPA, developing lessons learned and proposing metrics and new approaches and policies to guide future engagements. Develop Strategic Partnerships with Civil Society with a business development approache with a view to building a solid basic of support for UNFPA. Liaises and strategizes alongside with other UNFPA units on UNFPA collaboration with CSO platforms and representations in key intergovernmental and multilateral conferences. Builds a network with CS liaison counterparts of other UN organizations promoting information sharing, identifying new opportunities to expand UNFPA's agenda and collaborating on joint ventures and messaging.
C. Internal coordination of Civil Society actions
Acts as a nexus for Civil Society engagement activities and information across the organization, ensuring knowledge integration and sharing across teams that optimizes corporate awareness and coordination. Promotes consistent messaging across teams interacting with CS partners that enhances quality and UNFPA's reputation among CS partners.
D. Broader Support to the Strategic Partnerships Branch
As Advisor in the Strategic Partnerships Branch, the coordinator will support the broader work of the Branch and the Chief of the Branch in her leadership role, and perform any other duties that may be required.
Qualifications and Experience
Education:
Advanced Masters Degree or equivalent in Social Sciences, Communications, Public Affairs or Development Studies.
Knowledge and Experience:
10 years of relevant and increasingly responsible professional experience in outreach, developing and managing strategic partnerships with CSOs, as well as with other stakeholders, including parliamentarians, which are key to position UNFPA's Agenda at the national, regional and global level. Knowledge of the ICPD agenda is essential. Strong inter-personal and public speaking skills, team work, excellent speech writing and business development acumen are also required. Experience with civil society in Program Countries is an added value for the position.
Languages:
Proficiency in English required. Knowledge of an additional UN language an asset.

Compensation and Benefits
