About the Research and Training Centre for Community Development (RTCCD):
Established in 1998, the RTCCD is an independent research institution specializing in socio-health policy research and poverty reduction. RTCCD provides community-based scientific evidence to promote health development and strengthen human resource capacity at the grassroots level. The RTCCD is implementing activities on alcohol harm prevention and control in Vietnam (2023 – 2027), including:
- Developing an education model for kindergarten children on alcohol harm prevention and control (focusing on children aged 4-5 years)
- Generating scientific evidence as technical support for recommending an alcohol tax increase on the draft of Amended Law on Excise Tax (Special consumption tax) in accordance with recommendations of the World Health Organization;
- Capacity building for communities and non-profit organizations to prevent alcohol’s harmful effects in Viet Nam.
Job Description:
1. Communication for Alcohol Harm Prevention Activities (AHP) (70% of total working hours):
- Reporting to the Project Coordinator, the Communication Officer will undertake the following responsibilities:
- Contribute to the development and implementation of a communication strategy for the alcohol harm prevention project.
- Maintain and develop relationships with young volunteers, media outlets, and journalists interested in AHP and non-communicable disease prevention.
- Manage and update media content for the project's library.
- Create communication materials (including website/social media posts, posters, infographics, and short videos) based on research articles, peer-reviewed journals and verified scientific information on alcohol harm prevention in Vietnam and internationally;
- Oversee communication activities, including coordinating with young volunteers and liaising with media companies for video production.
- Ensure timely posting of online course content on the "Early Journey Of Life" (EJOL) website and coordinate with the Project Coordinator for monitoring and content adjustments.
- Assist in preparing reports for RTCCD’s Management Board and project’s donors.
2. Communication for Other RTCCD Activities (30% of total working hours):
- Collaborate with the Board of Directors and project staff to develop communication strategies for RTCCD. Promote RTCCD's image as a leading organization in maternal and child health care, NCD prevention, health system research, and health policy advocacy.
- Manage RTCCD's website and Facebook page, including posting news articles, managing uploaded content, and responding to public inquiries.
- Encourage and follow up with other RTCCD project teams to provide Vietnamese and English news on their project activities, then edit and post these contents on RTCCD’s website and Facebook.
- Support the production of communication materials for RTCCD projects.
- Handle press inquiries and facilitate responses from RTCCD.
- Participate in organizing workshops, talkshows, and scientific activities within RTCCD’s projects.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in communication, health promotion, journalism, or related fields.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in communication, preferably with NGOs.
- Proficiency in writing press releases and case studies.
- Strong writing skills for websites and social media.
Knowledge of photography and videography.
- Familiarity with website design and maintenance is preferred.
- Good communication in English (written and spoken)
- Experience in working with media, press, and NGOs in public health is advantageous.
- Creative, dynamic, flexible, and proactive attitude.
- Ability to work independently, as part of a team, and under pressure.
- Report to/ Under supervision of:
- The Communication Officer will work under the supervision and support of the Project Coordinator.
- The position is full-time at RTCCD's office in Hanoi, with occasional field trips.
