Job Description

SI seeks to hire a full-time Communications and Social and Behavioral Change (SBC) Young Professional to support the Health team, starting in June 2024. This position is based in Hanoi and will report to the Deputy Director of the health office.

Project Objective

Social Impact (SI) is implementing the USAID/Vietnam Learns Contract. The scope of the five-year project is to support USAID/Vietnam staff and its implementing partners to implement more efficient, effective, and sustainable programs by (1) improving staff knowledge and skills in Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning (MEL) and Collaborating, Learning & Adapting (CLA); (2) advancing evidence-informed decision-making; (3) strengthening strategic collaboration between staff and local stakeholders.
Please note: This position will be hired by Social Impact and the YP will be seconded to USAID Vietnam.

About USAID’s Diversity, Development and Diplomacy Professional Development Program

USAID Diversity, Development and Diplomacy Professional Development Program (USAID DDD) is a recruitment initiative for talented university students to develop skills and professional capacity. Young Professionals (YPs) joining the program will have the opportunity to further develop their knowledge and skills related to programming international development activities; developing program budgets for international donors such as USAID; and providing technical assistance to implementing partners, civil society, Government of Vietnam officials, and other donors. YPs in the USAID DDD will be given the opportunity to:
  • Work in a professional, creative, and agile environment focused on making positive change in Vietnam.
  • Experience a range of training and professional development opportunities and exposure to new tools and techniques.
  • Build a marketable skillset through substantive technical work.
  • Gain insights on project management.

Selection Criteria

  • Current Vietnamese University students in year 3 or later pursuing a degree in Public Health, Social Work, Social Research, or related fields.
  • Keen interest in contributing to sustainable development goals and communications for development projects.
  • Strong willingness to learn
  • Strong ability to pay attention to details, while remaining agile, quick-thinking, creative, and proactive.
  • Good English and Vietnamese reading and writing skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, communication and collaboration skills.
  • Strong writing and data visualization skills preferred.
  • Strong research analytical skills.
  • Experience in using MS Office, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, is a plus.

SBC YP will be expected to:

  • Conduct research to help the health team understand the social and behavioral determinants affecting healthcare-seeking behaviors in Vietnam.
  • Conduct a comprehensive review of existing literature on healthcare seeking behaviors in Vietnam, focusing on cultural, economic, and social factors.
  • Summarize key findings and identify gaps that could inform communication strategies.
  • Develop factsheets for different program areas.
  • Support communication efforts as needed.
  • Assist the execution of the health team’s tasks as needed.

By the end of the assignment, SBC YP will:

  • Become fully conversant about USAID health programs
  • Be able to demonstrate improved written and verbal communication skills, specifically tailored for the public health sector and produce high-quality content for diverse communication channels.
  • Have gained experience working within a dynamic team, fostering effective collaboration, and contributing to collective goals.
