Background of consultancy assignment/project

WWF was one of the first international non-governmental organisations to work in Viet Nam. In 1985, WWF began working on a national conservation strategy. Since then, it has worked closely with the Vietnamese Government on a diverse range of environmental issues and implemented field activities across the country.

CAL in Viet Nam contains 2.2 million ha of natural forests, and is home to over 10 million people, including 7 million who depend on agriculture and forestry for their livelihoods. However, deforestation and forest degradation are a critical threat to the health of our planet, the wildlife that call these forests home and the millions of people who rely directly on forests for survival. At WWF, we take a solutions-oriented, integrated and local-to-global approach that seeks synergies with relevant stakeholders to influence drivers of deforestation and forest degradation, help restore forests and tackle snaring and improve wildlife habitat in protected areas. Our vision is of the CAL enriched by extensive, resilient landscapes benefiting biodiversity, people, climate and nature.

Objective of the consultancy

Communications is crucial for realising sustainable goals of Biodiversity conservation, achieving tangible results, and garnering support from local and international communities. As a part of the Biodiversity conservation, including Forests and Wildlife practices, the Communications Consultant (the Consultant) will play a pivotal role in implementing the communication plans, increasing public awareness, and assisting to drive action and collaboration on a multi stakeholder level in all sectors of society.

The consultant will be based in Hue city, Thua Thien Hue province.

Scope of work/ Major responsibility

The Consultant is expected to support with the following areas:

Study the communication guidelines of WWF
Study information on the strategic plan of Forests and Wildlife practices, nature based solutions in CAL, and the ongoing projects of the Forests and Wildlife practices
Coordinate with staff of the Forests and Wildlife teams, Comms staff, other relevant WWF-Viet Nam staff, partners, and agencies/other consultants to deliver initiatives and expected outputs as stated in Annex A
Travel to project sites to implement workplan
Perform other tasks when required.

Required profile:

The Consultant is required to have:

A university degree in marketing, communications, journalism or related field
3+ years of practical experience in communications or related field
Professional working proficiency in both written and spoken English and Vietnamese
Experience in video production and editing and/or graphic design is preferred
Passionate about communications and conservation
Good writing skills in news, editing, press release, stories and social media news
Ability to multitask
Has experience working with WWF is a plus
Demonstrated ability to adhere to strict confidentiality
Can do attitude
