The Division of Public Partnerships (PPD) works to strengthen UNICEF's position as a partner of choice for children's rights among governments and public actors around the world. The division is doing this by connecting UNICEF’s positioning of children in intergovernmental and multilateral fora and negotiations to the engagement with governments and public institutions (including IFIs) as resource, policy and program partners. A key premise for PPD is that the engagement with countries is based on multiple levels of partnerships, including around resource mobilization and policy advocacy. The UN Partnerships team is part of the Public Partnerships Division (PPD). Its primary function and responsibilities are: i) monitor and report on implementation of the Quadrennial Comprehensive Policy Review Resolution; ii)support senior management’s engagement in the Chief Executive’s Board for Coordination (CEB) and its three pillars and other interagency fora on issues related to UN Coherence and UN Reform (UNSDG Principals and Core Group Meetings, etc.; iii) provide guidance and maintain communication with field colleagues on issues related to UN Coherence as a part of field engagement. Job organizational context: This consultancy position is located within the UN Partnerships Team which forms part of the multi-lateral team in the Public Partnerships Division in UNICEF New York Headquarters. How can you make a difference? Under the overall supervision and guidance of the Partnerships Manager (P4), the consultant will be part of the UN Partnerships Team and provide support in:
  1. Contribute to the preparation of and monitoring outcomes from the i) UNICEF Executive Board in September on issues related to UNDS Reform, ii) UNSDG and the Core Group meetings.
  2. Support UNICEF’s corporate engagement in the 2020 Quadrennial Comprehensive Policy Review (QCPR)
  3. Monitor UNICEF’s contributions to various UN coherence mechanisms & reform discussions.
To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have …
  • A University Degree (Bachelor's or higher) in International Development, International Relations, Social Sciences, or related technical field.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of relevant professional experience, or equivalent training/schooling.
  • Familiarity with UN Reform, Coherence and the QCPR.
  • Familiarity with communication tools such as Sway, Skype for Business, etc.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent research and analysis skills.
  • Sets high levels of quality and productivity for self.
  • Seeks and quickly absorbs new information and techniques.
  • Proven ability to work under tight deadlines and drive for results.
  • Fluency in English (both written and oral) is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) is an asset.
1. Duration of agreement: 15 August 2020 – 31 December 2020 2. Schedule and Duty Station: Full-time virtual/possible on-site work at UNICEF Headquarters, 3 United Nations Plaza, New York guided by the organisation’s plan for re-opening of the NYHQ premises. Consultants working at NYHQ, must have a valid G-4 visa prior to their arrival. The UN will not register a Consultant who is on a different type of visa (i.e. visitor's visa).  Consultants employed at NYHQ who are not on a G-4 visa must take immediate action to obtain a G-4 visa and register with the UN accordingly.  No visas will be facilitated by UNICEF. Travel: No Travel is expected for duration of the contract.  However in the case of unexpected travel the following will apply: Unexpected travels shall be calculated based on economy class travel, regardless of the length of travel and ii) costs for accommodation, meals and incidentals shall not exceed applicable daily subsistence allowance (DSA) rates, as promulgated by the International Civil Service Commission (ICSC). Consultants and individual contractors are fully responsible for arranging, at their own expense, all insurance, such as life, health and other forms of insurance, covering the period of their services as they consider appropriate.  They are required to certify that they are covered by medical/health insurance.
