UNICEF has over 12,000 staff in more than 145 countries.   BACKGROUND The Child Protection and Development (CPD) team within the Data Analysis and Innovation Unit covers a number of topics including birth registration, child labour, child marriage, female genital mutilation, violence against children and children living outside of family care. The CPD team work in the area of child protection includes: supporting the collection of nationally representative data through the Multiple Indicator Cluster Surveys (MICS); maintaining global databases on key protection indicators; methodological work to develop new data collection and monitoring tools and questionnaires in the area of child protection, including on issues measured by SDG indicators; conducting data analyses; and disseminating data on child protection in a variety of ways including through flagship publications, thematic data-driven publications and brochures and statistical country profiles. The purpose of this consultancy is to provide support to the CPD team on several different projects with regards to drafting and writing of a number of different communications and dissemination materials. The consultant will also support with other research tasks as needed.   Terms of Reference / Deliverables  In close collaboration with the Senior Adviser, Statistics (Child Protection and Development), the consultant is expected to:
  • Support with drafting a written report with results from the census and survey of residential care in Ghana
  • Support with drafting an article on the testing and validation of the protocol for data collection on children living in residential care in three countries
  • Support with drafting a concept/guidance note on the standard protocol for data collection on children living in residential care
  • Support with revising and updating a technical document that outlines the methodological work undertaken to develop the ECDI2030
  • Update existing inventory of questions on sexual violence against children
  • Support with drafting a data-driven publication on child protection in Ghana
  • Support with drafting a data-driven publication on adolescents in Ghana
  • Support with finalizing a report template and pilot report for survey findings on adolescent well-being
  • Support with drafting an academic article on the measurement of adolescent participation
  • Support with drafting an article documenting challenges in the measurement of child marriage
  Qualifications 1) Education
  • First-level (Bachelor’s) university degree in social sciences, public health, or demography.
2) Work experience
  • A minimum of three years of professional work experience in research, social sciences, public health, or demography is required.
  • It is an asset if the individual has experience with, or in, multilateral institutions such as the UN or UNICEF.
  • Previous experience with conducting literature reviews and/or systematic reviews is required.
  • Previous experience with writing for publication in academic journals is preferred.

Payment of professional fees will be based on submission of agreed satisfactory deliverables. UNICEF reserves the right to withhold payment in case the deliverables submitted are not up to the required standard or in case of delays in submitting the deliverables on the part of the consultant. U.S. Visa information: With the exception of the US Citizens, G4 Visa and Green Card holders, should the selected candidate and his/her household members reside in the United States under a different visa, the consultant and his/her household members are required to change their visa status to G4, and the consultant’s household members (spouse) will require an Employment Authorization Card (EAD) to be able to work, even if he/she was authorized to work under the visa held prior to switching to G4.
