We are looking for a Vietnamese national for:
- Vacancy: Consultant to develop audio materials
- Location: Hanoi
Objectives of the Consultancy
The main objectives of the assignment are:
- To develop and record an audio book in Hmong language based on the content of the picture book which was already developed by the project;
- To compose the music using the lyrics prepared by the project, and record the songs in Hmong language
- To ensure the products listed in (1) and (2) are suitable, easy to understand and attractive to Hmong people in the project provinces.
Consultant’s responsibilities:
The consultant will carry out the following tasks with close communication with Health & Nutrition coordinator, Food and Nutrition Security Technical Advisor and Hmong expert; and under the supervision of Project manager.
Task 1. Develop a detailed workplan
- The consultant will meet the SC project team to discuss and agree on the workplan. SC should provide necessary information and support with the consultant in order to facilitate the consultant’s understanding and expected work and outcomes.
Task 2. Draft the scripts for audio book, lyrics and melodies and record the 1st draft
The consultant will develop the first drafts of the script for audio book, lyrics and melodies of the songs by referring to (i) IEC materials with similar contents and (ii) inputs from SC and Hmong expert.
Particularly, the consultant will do as follows:
(1) Audio book:
- Translate the picture book already developed by the project from Kinh to Hmong language with support from SC and Hmong expert;
- Make necessary revisions or adjustments (e.g. supplement information) for audiences to listen and follow the contents easier and keep focused;
- Record a sample in Hmong language, receive initial feedback from SC and Hmong expert and finalize the 1st draft.
(2) Songs:
- Translate and revise 03 lyrics prepared by the project after discussion with project team, namely songs for breastfeeding, complementary feeding and calling for family support in raising children from Kinh to Hmong language with support from SC and Hmong expert;
- Make necessary adjustments for audiences to listen and follow the contents easier;
- Compose suitable 03 melodies for 03 lyrics to effectively communicate the idea to the target in the project districts;
- Record a sample in Hmong language, receive initial feedback from SC and Hmong expert and finalize the 1st draft.
Task 3: Test the 1 st draft with local partners in Yen Bai and develop to 2nd draft
Focus Group discussion with local partners and beneficiaries will be conducted to gather their feedback on the 1 st draft. The process will be as follows:
- SC and the consultants work together in developing questionnaires on each material;
- Collect feedback from key personnel such as health center staff, women’s union, village health workers and village heads in two project districts;
- Collect feedback from beneficiaries including mothers, fathers and grandparents in two project districts;
- Have meetings with SC and Hmong expert to have consensus on revisions based on the feedback collected;
- Develop the 2nd draft based on the consensus.
Task 4. Test the 2nd draft with beneficiaries in Yen Bai and finalize
Focus Group discussion with beneficiaries including mothers, fathers and grandparents will be conducted to gather their feedback on the 2nd draft. The final materials should be approved by SC and Hmong expert.
Expected deliverables
- 01 original audio file of the book which is ready for industrial recording into mini portable players. The audio file should be in hi-resolution, at WAV form (44,100Hx, 16 Bit rates);
- 03 original audio files of the songs which is ready for industrial recording into hard discs and mini portable players. These audio files should be in hi-resolution, at WAV form (44,100Hx, 16 Bit rates).
Requirements
- Bachelor degree on culture and art, or related field;
- Demonstrated experience in developing IEC materials focused on ethnic minority people, especially in audio format (e.g. music);
- Demonstrated experience in working or visiting northern mountainous area, especially Hmong area;
- Priority given for who has experience in working for health and nutrition projects;
- Efficiency in both Kinh and Hmong language;
- Good understanding and being respectful to ethnic minority culture, especially Hmong group;
- Ability to work as team.
