Background on Save the Children

Background information/context

Sponsorship program has been implemented in Lao Cai since 2013 with funding from generous individual donors from United States, Italy, Australia and Hong Kong. The goal of the program is to ensure all children in the impact area are healthy and educated and become nurturing caregivers and positive contributors to society. The impact area is defined as 48 communes in 5 districts in Lao Cai with about 25,000 children aged 6-10.

In 2021, as a result of Covid-19 pandemic, all primary schools in Lao Cai were closed from early Feb until May. During this lockdown time, school children accessed remote learning in different ways and of different volume. Initial feedback from our partners, parents and children suggested that while only a few primary school children had access to some types of remote learning activities, the quality seemed to be very limited. Both teachers and students are not well prepared for remote learning although remote learning will be irresistible trend in the future.

Hence, as part of our effort to support Lao Cai Department of Education and Training towards high quality distance education, SCI plans to start our interventions to enhance and prepare both primary teachers and students for better remote learning capacity by providing digital literacy training for both teachers and students with a focus on distance education.

Following with the successful pilot training in one primary school in Lao Cai at the beginning of this year, we keep expanding this intervention in Lao Cai province.

Objective

1. Objectives of the training

The consultant(s) who is engaged in this consultancy service, is expected to:

1.1 Training course on Microsoft tools at provincial level

Provide training on some Microsoft tools (Office 365, Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Forms, Microsoft Sway) used in teaching and classroom management for core teachers from districts in Lao Cai province.

1.2 Training course on Microsoft tools and online safety at Xuan Quang 3 Primary School, Bao Thang district

Provide training on the Microsoft tools used in teaching and classroom management for all teachers at Xuan Quang 3 Primary School.
Provide training on Microsoft TEAM and online safety for primary students in the same primary school with focus distance learning.

We are looking for A group of consultants to provide Digital literacy training for school teachers and students in Lao Cai

Location:

02 one and a half days training courses will be provided for 70 teachers from different districts in Lao Cai province. 70 teachers will be divided into two classes.
01 two days training course will be provided for 26 teachers at Xuan Quang 3 Primary School, Bao Thang district.
03 one day training courses for around 221 primary school students at Xuan Quang 3 Primary School, Bao Thang district.

5	Provide trainings for school teachers from different districts in Lao Cai	x
6	Provide trainings for teachers and students in Xuan Quang 3 Primary School in Bao Thang district, including its satellite sites.		x
7	Provide four following mentoring calls through Microsoft Teams for each class in the teacher training to provide hands-on supports for teachers		x
8	Prepare two reports in English and Vietnamese, with focus on the findings and recommendations for better organization of this training course as well as follow up actions to support the trainees in application of the Microsoft teams in future.	x	x

Experience and skill set required

All the consultants have the following qualifications and experiences:
At least Bachelor degree (preferable degree of information technology)
Long experience in carrying out similar trainings in Vietnam
Understanding and experience in working with ethnic minority communities in northern provinces
Understanding of political, cultural, social context in Vietnam
Analytical and writing skills
Good at English and Vietnamese
Demonstrated ability to produce work with high quality in a short span of time

Timeline

The consultant(s) will start the work from August. 2021 and complete by December. 2021. The detail of timeline for each activity will be developed between SC and the consultant.
