THE ORGANISATION
Plan International is an independent development and humanitarian organisation that advances children’s rights and equality for girls. We believe in the power and potential of every child. But this is often suppressed by poverty, violence, exclusion and discrimination. And it’s girls who are most affected. Working together with children, young people, our supporters and partners, we strive for a just world, tackling the root causes of the challenges facing girls and all vulnerable children. We support children’s rights from birth until they reach adulthood. And we enable children to prepare for – and respond to – crises and adversity. We drive changes in practice and policy at local, national and global levels using our reach, experience and knowledge. We have been building powerful partnerships for children for over 80 years and are now active in more than 70 countries.THE OPPORTUNITY
Plan International began operating in Vietnam in 1954 and after a temporary withdrawal returned in 1993 with the mission to advance children’s rights and equality for girls. We recognize the important progress made in social and economic development in Vietnam over recent years, in a country experiencing rapid change. Significant challenges remain for remote, ethnic minority communities and especially for young women and girls further acerbated by the covid19 pandemic. We work in the most remote and hard to reach districts of the country, with local government and other partners. The Country Strategy of Plan International Vietnam, that has recently undergone a thorough review, has one programme with three intervention areas that include:- Inclusive social services based on PIV’s niche programming in child protection and preventing GBV
- Climate and disaster resilience which builds on PIV’s growing experience in this sector; and
- Economic empowerment focussing on youth market oriented vocational training and entrepreneurship.
