Environmental Education Toolkit Consultant(s), Greater Mekong

  • Duration: 5 months (1 November 2023 to 31 March 2024)
  • Location: Home-based with possible travel to/within the Greater Mekong region.
  • Applicants based in Myanmar, Lao PDR, Thailand or Cambodia are preferred.

Overarching Project Goal and Outcomes:
The overall goal is to invest in current and future generations of youth, lead change and to protect the environment of the Greater Mekong region.

Expected Outcomes

Young people in the Greater Mekong region are better equipped with the knowledge needed to lead and drive change on issues of sustainable development, sustainable freshwater ecosystem management, renewable energy and climate change adaptation in their local communities.
Clear contributions are made towards the realization of national and regional policies focused on optimizing environmental benefits and sustainable freshwater ecosystem management for future generations in the Greater Mekong region.

Implementation Location

The project will ultimately be implemented in Myanmar, Lao PDR, Thailand, and Cambodia.

Consultancy Deliverables and Timeline

  • Develop one curriculum and associated toolkit (at least two drafts/feedback stages before final product delivery), focused on issues of sustainable freshwater ecosystem management, renewable energy, and climate change.
    • First draft must be submitted by the last week of November 2023
    • Second draft must be submitted by the second week of January 2024
    • Final document must be submitted in mid-February 2024
  • Organize and manage focus group meetings and discussions with youth representatives (WWF will assemble representatives and oversee associated logistics)
    • Several online meetings between November 2023 and March 2024, as needed.
  • Assemble a map of relevant stakeholders to be involved and/or informed about this environment education resource, and/or those best positioned to support its promotion/dissemination.
    • Final stakeholder map must be submitted in mid-February 2024
  • Prepare agenda and support facilitation of an in-person (if possible) ‘validation workshop’ with youth representatives, educators, and other stakeholders. To be held in a Greater Mekong country
    • The workshop will be held in the last two weeks of January 2024
Optional:
  • Identify national and regional-level policies relevant to this environmental education resource (e.g. ASEAN Vision 2025) and develop a plan to ensure widespread take up of the resource across the Greater Mekong
    • Promotion plans due mid-March 2024

Selection Criteria

  • Graduate degree in relevant environmental discipline and/or education
  • Understanding of environmental/education issues
  • Experience in organizing training/workshops with/for youth.
  • Experience of environmental education/training (within the Greater Mekong region is an asset)
  • Familiarity with frameworks and sensitivities related to youth and gender issues.
  • Experience with curriculum and toolkit development.
  • Experienced trainer of trainers is an asset.
  • Connected to networks relevant to environmental training and/or education training in the Greater Mekong region is an asset.
  • Experience in project-based learning is an asset.
  • Proficient in English.
