Background

The Oxford University Clinical Research Unit (OUCRU) is a large-scale clinical and public health research unit, with sites offices in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi in Vietnam, Jakarta in Indonesia and Kathmandu in Nepal. In Vietnam, the Hospital of Tropical Diseases (HTD) in Ho Chi Minh City and the National Hospital hosts us for Tropical Diseases (NHTD) in Hanoi. OUCRU Nepal has partnerships with the Patan Academy of Health Sciences and Patan Hospital, and OUCRU Indonesia exists in partnership with the University of Indonesia. As a Wellcome Trust Africa Asia Programme, we have received considerable support from the Welcome Trust since our establishment in 1991.

OUCRU’s vision is to have local, regional and global impact on health by leading a locally driven research programme on infectious diseases in Southeast Asia. Priority is given to health issues important to the hospitals where we work, and to the countries as a whole where we operate: Vietnam, Indonesia and Nepal.  All work is intended not only to benefit the patients seen daily at our host hospitals, but also to help improve patient care.

OUCRU employs approximately 320 people across Viet Nam and has an average annual budget of USD 12mil.

Job Details

  • Position: Equipment Maintenance Technician
  • Department: Laboratory Management Group
  • Location: Oxford University Clinical Research Unit, Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam
  • Hours of work: Full-time. Working hours are 37.5 hours per week.
  • Tenure: Initially for 1 year, including a 2 month probation period, with possibility of extension.
  • Reporting to: Laboratory Manager

Job Summary

  • The post will support the Laboratory Manager/ Laboratory Management group with laboratory equipment procurement plan, installation, training, maintenance, calibration, operation and monitoring the equipment performance in OUCRU HCMC.
  • Support Laboratory Manager in developing instrument preventive maintenance contracts and negotiate/ tracking/ facilitating the instrument preventive maintenance contracts.
  • Support Laboratory Manager in maintenance of BSL3 laboratory and address trouble shooting that may require for the BSL3 laboratory; developing the procurement plan for spare parts and tools for BSL3 engineering control system.

Key Responsibilities and tasks

  • Equipment Troubleshooting & Repair (Response to Equipment failure, Troubleshooting / Identification of problem, Basic Repair)
  • Maintain Equipment Inventory  (List of Equipment, Dynamics 365 updates, Equipment Location, Equipment movement)
  • Equipment Calibration & Safety certification (use of SOP, Safety valve, Pressure piping, meter, QMS charts/forms/tables for routine documentation,Ensure equipment meets regulatory Safety standards).
  • BioSafety Level 3 (BSL3) Containment Lab Technical Surveillance (monitoring temperature and pressure, BSL3 Routine Technical Checks , Daily Pressure record & documentation, Air Handling Unit (AHU) pressure daily, Exhaust Unit (EXU), Chiller, Replace G4 filter weekly, Replace F7 filter monthly, Ensure BSL3 Facility meets regulatory Safety standards
  • Attending to any emergency breakdowns and repairs: 24 hours’ emergency call.
  • BSL3 Fumigation (SOP, Equipment requirements, Consumables requirements, Implementation of process, Monitoring & Evaluation).

Selection Criteria

Essential:

  • A bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field. Candidates with a Diploma in Engineering may be considered.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience as in Biomedical Equipment related fields.
  • Experience on Biosafety Cabinets (BSC), Autoclave maintenance, Cold-Chain equipment.
