Our mission
is to conserve threatened species and ecosystems worldwide, choosing solutions that are sustainable, based on sound science, and which take into account human needs.
Our focus is on protecting biodiversity (the diversity of life on Earth), which underpins healthy ecosystems and is critical for the life support systems that humans and all other species rely on.
FFI Vietnam Programme focuses on the conservation of Vietnam’s most threatened wild life and important habitats and ecosystems. A particular focus of the programme has been our primate conservation activities that span more than 15 years and have resulted in the discovery and protection of some of the world’s rarest primate species. Our approach of long-term investment and grass roots engagement has resulted in turning some primate species back from the brink of extinction. We work through government partners and local communities to ensure our conservation interventions are sustainable and meet the needs of those who live in close association with Vietnam’s last wild places. FFI’s work currently focuses in the Northern Limestone Mountains and Central Vietnam, specifically in the provinces of Ha Giang, Yen Bai, Son La, Cao Bang, Hai Phong and Kon Tum. Key species include the Critically Endangered cao vit gibbon, western black-crested gibbon, Tonkin snub-nosed monkey Cat Ba langur and grey-shanked douc langur. Our interventions include supporting improved protected area management, engaging local people in conservation through community patrols, co-management mechanisms and education as well as development of Payment for Ecosystem Services mechanisms such as REDD+ and PFES to ensure long-term financing for conservation.
