International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) seeks to recruit a Field Coordinator to support the implementation of the Vietnam priority country project “Sustainable Animal Productivity for Livelihoods, Nutrition and Gender Inclusion (SAPLING Initiative)” in the province of Son La, in collaboration with the different partner institutions.
ILRI works to improve food security and nutrition, and reduce poverty in developing countries through research for efficient, safe and sustainable use of livestock. It is the only one of 11 CGIAR research centres dedicated entirely to animal agriculture research for the developing world. Co-hosted by Kenya and Ethiopia, ILRI has regional or country offices and projects in East, South and Southeast Asia as well as Central, East, Southern and West Africa.

Key Responsibilities

  • To coordinate with respective project partners and stakeholders and local authorities (provincial, district, commune and village levels) to facilitate field activities in Son La province
  • Identify the requirements and apply for permission for project’s foreign experts and foreign delegations who want to visit the project sites in Mai Son, Phu Yen districts and Son La province
  • Manage the administrative procedures required by local authority for project registration
  • Sharing project results with local partners and link to relevant provincial development policies as appropriate.
  • Prepare and submit the periodical reports to local authorities as stipulated by Son La/ Mai Son’s People Committee and ILRI
  • Organize and coordinate the planning of workshops, trainings, surveys, field/ demo trials as per the SAPLING Vietnam project proposal and synthesis into reports.
  • Support the development of tools to measure and advance equity, social inclusion and M& E
  • To coordinate with local partners and community groups in research planning, implementation, and monitoring and evaluation
  • Manage the efficient communication flow between local partners and the SAPLING Vietnam and global country team
  • To undertake other relevant tasks as assigned by work supervisors

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Livestock Sciences or Agriculture
  • Minimum 3-year experience in similar position
  • Working experience with mixed crop-livestock systems
  • Experience in participatory research and management of field trials
  • Experience with field work, data collection
  • Good understanding of integrated systems, environmental impacts of livestock production, animal health and welfare is an advantage
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Capacity to work independently in remote areas and able to cope with heavy intermittent workloads extending beyond office hours
  • Willingness to travel and to spend time in the field
  • Ability to work in interdisciplinary and international team, very good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent written and spoken English and Vietnamese

Position Location: 

ILRI’s Hanoi Office, Vietnam with frequent travel to Son La for field work activities.

Terms of Appointment

This position is at job level HG12 and it is only open to Vietnam nationals. The position is a  fixed term contract up to 31st Dec 2024. ILRI offers a competitive salary and benefits package which includes pension, medical and other insurance.
