About the position

The OneCGIAR research initiative on Sustainable Healthy Diets through Food Systems Transformations (SHiFT) aims to stimulate the demand for/consumption of sustainable healthy diets; the production/delivery of nutritious, safe, affordable, and sustainably produced foods; while improving livelihoods, gender equity, and social inclusiveness in all subsectors of food systems. One of the objectives of Work Package 1 is to Identify, test, and evaluate potentially scalable consumer- and food environment -focused policies, innovations, and guidelines to shift consumption patterns toward sustainable healthy diets. It is within this work package that the Alliance seeks to establish the co-creation of community actions to improve the adolescents’ food environments to ensure access to and consumption of healthy and sustainable diets in Vietnam.

Toward these objectives, the Alliance is seeking for an intern to assist with the participatory video-making process with adolescent study participants. The intern will join all the participatory workshops and will play an active role during the practical exercises (focused on training adolescents on video-making, including (i) writing an outline/narrative of the video, (ii) filming clips with smartphones, and (iii) editing video clips to make the final video). Besides the intern will play a crucial and active role in accompanying and monitoring adolescents when filming clips in their food environments (e.g. at and around the school, on markets, in the street, etc.).

The intern will work within a team of 8 staff, including other interns and senior staff. He/she will work under the direct supervision of the lead facilitator and in-country study lead.

Key responsibilities

  • Contribute to the design and planning of the practical exercises for the participatory workshops.
  • Participate to the training workshops, and contribute to the facilitation of the practical exercises.
  • Supervise, guide and monitor adolescents while they capture video clips within their food environments. This involves providing assistance to ensure that the recorded clips align with the adolescents' intended film script/outline/narrative.
  • Assist adolescents in assembling the filmed clips and create the final videos. This involves (i) reviewing produced clips and videos for quality issues, (ii) support adolescents to select the most pertinent video clips, and (iii) provide technical support to adolescents as they proceed to video editing. 
  • Other tasks when required.

Deliverables

  • Effective and active participation to all the training workshops
  • Produce simple and concise field reports outlining the constraints and difficulties faced by adolescents when filming the clips.
  • Compile and organize all video clips from all production teams.
  • Facilitate the timely completion of the final videos by supporting adolescents in their work.

Key Qualifications

HARD SKILLS
  • Basic understanding of video production processes, including script/outline creation and clip filming.
  • Basic command of at least one video editing software.
  • Experience with participatory video making will be a major plus.
  • Good command of Vietnamese and English (Written and Oral)
SOFT SKILLS
  • Openness to both acquiring new knowledge and sharing it with others.
  • Aptitudes and willingness to work with adolescents.
  • Good communication skills with a positive attitude and a strong service orientation
