Global Humanitarian Youth Advisor Are you passionate about young people’s participation in emergency preparedness and response work? This position is funded and contracted by ActionAid Denmark, hosted by ActionAid UK, and will support the International Humanitarian and Resilience Team (IHART) as well as focal points and other programming staff across the ActionAid Federation.
As an Advisor, you will:
• Provide support and technical input on ActionAid’s gender responsive youth leadership and participation in emergency preparedness and response work.
• Support IHART staff to integrate a youth perspective in humanitarian programming including in AAs humanitarian signature that guides all programming.
• Advise on how to integrate the upcoming IASC youth programming guidelines in programming.
• Engages in capacity building initiatives of young people in humanitarian engagement at regional and global levels including the Compact for young people in humanitarian action.
• Provide technical advice and support on youth-led emergency preparedness, response, prevention and resilience in line with the humanitarian / development / peace / climate nexus, ActionAid’s humanitarian signature and gender responsive approach.
• Work closely with IHART advisors and the Women’s Leadership and Resilience delegation’s country teams to identify opportunities, issues and gaps in country responses to intervene strategically to establish programme quality and output in the area of Youth.
• Identify strategic platforms for youth advocacy in regional and global platforms to influence humanitarian action and link countries and national young people organizations and networks to participate in relevant regional meetings, clusters and networks.
• Support fundraising for youth leadership and participation in emergency preparedness and response work.
• Establish platforms to amplify female youth voices and documenting their narratives.
• Provide programme quality and response design feedback to countries in collaboration with the MEL Coordinator and engage technical expertise when and where necessary in a coordinated way.
• Review DPRF plans and reports and provide feedback on the aspect of how younger people are involved in responses.
The job requires that you have:
• Excellent knowledge of contextual and humanitarian issues.
• Understanding of intergenerational dynamics of contexts particularly in humanitarian action.
• Experience of youth engagement programme designing and implementation.
• Experience in working with partners in the global south and hold the values on shifting power and working collaboratively.
• Commitment to local women’s and youth’s leadership, including understanding of women’s and youth organisations/movements and their role in humanitarian response.
• Technical knowledge on Child Protection/VAG, in addition to empowerment and leadership building programming.
• Experience with best interest assessment and case management for UASC (unaccompanied and separated children), prevention and response to violence against adolescents (including some experience on working in challenging gender norms), sexual and reproductive health programming, mental health and psychosocial support.
• Full working knowledge of English.
• Graduate degree or equivalent in relevant field.
Desired skills and experiences for the job include:
• Experience of working in federation/confederation-based organizations.
• Experience of remote management.
• Ability to travel and effectively work long distance.
It is a prerequisite that you understand the role as an Advisor to support and build the capacity of others through coaching, mentoring, and advancing the youth agenda through developing and introducing good practices. Moreover, you are expected to respect and genuinely value the role of others.
We offer you:
• A base in the UK with ActionAid UK, with regular travels in the country and to other countries in the ActionAid Federation (once the safety situation allows).
