Background

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security. Placing women's rights at the centre of all its efforts, UN Women will lead and coordinate the United Nations’ system efforts to ensure that commitments on gender equality and gender mainstreaming translate into action throughout the world. It will provide strong and coherent leadership in support of Member States' priorities and efforts, building effective partnerships with civil society and other relevant actors. At UN Women Headquarters (HQ), the Intergovernmental Support and Strategic Partnerships Bureau includes the Strategic Partnerships, Advocacy, Communications and Resource Mobilization Division (SPD). Within SPD, the Resource Mobilization Branch (RMB) strives to coordinate and achieve UN Women’s resource mobilization goals, as the organization responds to UN reform efforts, the world financial situation and trends in aid effectiveness and development cooperation. The Partner Intelligence, Visibility and Analysis (PIVA) Unit at RMB elaborates provides timely and accurate partner intelligence to facilitate engagement and foster organizational learning and innovation.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the overall guidance and supervision of the Team Lead for the Partner Intelligence, Visibility and Analysis (PIVA) Unit, and in close collaboration with other members of the Resource Mobilization Branch, the consultant will support the diverse streams of work to enhance the communication of strategies, results and other information about partnership development with the goal of implementing UN Women's resource mobilization initiatives. Specifically, the Graphic Designer Consultant will be responsible for:

Designing communications materials, including corporate publications, brochures, briefs, newsletters, reports and graphic charts using Adobe Creative Suite, especially Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign.
Reviewing and providing feedback on visuals produced in-house, including PowerPoint presentations.
Designing social media cards and assets, in collaboration with the Communications Section.

Required Skills and Experience

Required Skills and Experience:

Education in Visual Communications, Graphic Design or similar.
Fluency with Adobe Creative Suite, especially Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign.
At least 3 years of experience in visual communications, graphic design for web and for print.
A strong portfolio of illustrations or other graphics.

Fluent in English
Attention to detail and knowledge of the latest visual design standards.
Organized, responsible, and able to prioritize and balance multiple assignments.
Familiarity with UN structure and values.
