Eligibility criteria Description of task Under the direct supervision of the Human Resources Officer, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:
  • Respond to queries on internships and volunteers from interested candidates/hiring offices/interns;
  • Support the development and maintenance of an internship and volunteer communities through periodic online and onsite career and networking events;
  • Maintain Social Network Groups for interns and volunteers and invite current and former interns and volunteers to be part of the community;
  • Promote online engagement of interns and volunteers in our Social Media groups;
  • Strengthen effective integration of interns and volunteers to UNICEF e.g. webinars, learning and career development opportunities;
  • Support the preparation and implementation of a communication plan to increase the knowledge of and promote the use of interns and volunteers across UNICEF offices;
  • Maintain and update the Internship and Volunteers website pages (Internet and Intranet);
  • Create, maintain and promote relevant communication tools and channels;
  • Create information products and materials for UNICEF and external audience (including future partner Universities), including documenting the impact of interns and volunteers serving with UNICEF.

  • Communication: proven interpersonal skills; good spoken and written communication skills, including ability to prepare clear and concise reports; ability to conduct presentations, articulate options and positions concisely; ability to make and defend recommendations; ability to communicate and empathize with staff (including national staff), military personnel, volunteers, counterparts and local interlocutors coming from very diverse backgrounds; ability to maintain composure and remain helpful towards the staff, but objective, without showing personal interest; capacity to transfer information and knowledge to a wide range of different target groups;
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and ability and willingness to operate independently in austere, remote and potentially hazardous environments for protracted periods, involving physical hardship and little comfort, and including possible extensive travel within the area of operations; willingness to transfer to other duty stations within area of operations as may be necessary;
  • Genuine commitment towards the principles of voluntary engagement, which includes solidarity, compassion, reciprocity and self-reliance; and commitment towards the UN core values.
