OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME
The WHO/IARC Classification of Tumours Group (WCT) is part of the research Section of Evidence Synthesis and Classification (ESC).
The objective of the WCT group is to publish the WHO Classification of Tumours series (WHO Blue Books), which are the international standard of histopathological and genetic classification of human cancers.
The aim of the new position is to provide technical assistance to staff and contributors to the WHO Blue Books; control of data within an in-house database, and dissemination of information to the teams within and external to IARC.

Note: The candidate selected for this position must be prepared to take up duties by start of January 2021. DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES Under the supervision of the Principal Information Assistant in the WCT Group, the incumbent provides first level technical support as required by the members of the WHO Classification of Tumours team, with key duties as follows: 1. First level support to contributors of the WHO Blue Books on the use of the Online Submission System (using existing in-house developed tool ‘BBOSS’) and the WHO Blue Books online web site; 2. IT support during editorial board meetings (projectors, web access, data integration); 3. Data extractions required for the production of the WHO Blue Books; 4. Setup the online submission system for new projects, assisting the supervisor at early stages of new IT/online projects; 5. Log and follow user queries (in Freshservice) through to resolution according to terms and conditions of service level agreements; 6. Qualify and track cases to the right second level team(s). REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Education Essential: Completed secondary education or equivalent and additional education (DUT or equivalent) in Computer Programming, Information Technology, Database Management, Web Development, Publishing, Digital Media, Communications or another related field. Desirable: A higher university degree (Bachelor’s or Master’s) in one of the above or related fields. Experience Essential: At least three years' combined experience in one or more of the following areas: i) Programming, administering and/or implementing database management systems; ii) Providing IT support to users (internal and external to the Organization); iii) Setting up, administering and/or updating online resources; iv) Producing digital content or online communications. Desirable: - Experience with content management systems for publishing; - Experience in an international and/or scientific environment. Skills Essential: - Knowledge of one or more web programming languages such as HTML, PHP, and/or JavaScript - Knowledge and prior use of SQL databases - Good knowledge and competency in MS Office suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) - Excellent administrative, organizational, and time-management skills - Effective communication and ability to work well as part of a multicultural team - High level of accuracy and attention to detail - Ability to work to deadlines Desirable: Desirable: - Knowledge of common IT tools for publishing: e.g. QuarkXpress, InDesign, Photoshop - Knowledge of web systems design, development, management - Knowledge of Linux remote access tools and protocols: e.g. ssh, shell, ftp, smtp, vpn - Knowledge and previous use of bibliographic software (EndNote) - Knowledge of Freshservice Use of Language Skills Intermediate level (or higher) of both English and French is required. REMUNERATION The fixed remuneration for the above position currently amounts to EUR3111 per month, and is expressed net of income tax but before deduction of the employee share contributions for mandatory participation in the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund and in the Organization’s private insurance plans covering health, accident, illness and disability. Net paid salary after deduction of these contributions amounts to approx. EUR2700 per month. Other benefits include 6 weeks of annual leave and allowances for dependent family members. Employment status is that of international civil servant. Note: due to the legal status of WHO/IARC as an international organization, its staff do not contribute to and do not generate benefits in French mandatory schemes for health insurance (“assurance maladie”), pension (“assurance vieillesse/retraite or unemployment (“Pôle-Emploi”) throughout their period of employment with the Agency.
