Information Systems Assistant

Organization Setting and Reporting

This position is located in the Enterprise Operations Section (EOS) of the Information Management Systems Service (IMSS) within the Pension Administration of the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund (UNJSPF). EOS is responsible for the provision of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Services, such as website, database, platform, network, desktop, and application support. The incumbent reports to the Chief of the Platform Services Unit, within EOS.

 

Responsibilities

Within delegated authority, the Information Systems Assistant will be responsible for the following duties:

• Participate in the development, programming, testing, debugging and implementation of new application systems releases, modules and functionalities.
• Develop, test, and provide support for SharePoint sites, workflows, and documents management processes.
• Serve as team member in the planning, specification, design, development, implementation and support of SharePoint services; independently liaise with users to define and specify requirements.
• Prepare technical and user documentation for deployed computer application systems, as well as training materials and conduct technical presentations.
• Maintain functional specifications for computer application systems, programs and procedures developed and/or modified.
• Provide support for deployed computer application systems including version management, data recovery and deployment to users’ offices; perform ongoing reviews with users and developers and responds to users requests.
• Drafts correspondence and communications, including work plan revisions and other related issues, as well as prepares unit contributions for a variety of periodic reports.
• Serve as focal point for coordination, monitoring and expedition of computer application systems development projects, involving extensive liaison with diverse organizational units to initiate requests; prepare standard terms of reference; process and follow-up on administrative actions and resolve issues related to project implementation, e.g. organization of and participation in training, procurement of equipment and services, etc.
• Keep abreast of developments in the field; perform benchmarking and propose new acquisitions.
• Provide guidance to new/junior staff.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent.

 

Work Experience

A minimum of seven years of experience in information technology is required.
Experience in SharePoint Online or SharePoint (2013/2016/2019) is required
Experience in SharePoint Workflow such tools as Nintex, Power Automate, and, SharePoint Designer are desirable
Experience in SharePoint custom form creation is desirable.
Experience in Document Management and Data Migration to SharePoint is desirable.
Experience in Web Development (HTML/CSS/JavaScript) is desirable.

 

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.

 

Assessment

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by a competency-based interview.

The United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund (UNJSPF) is an independent inter-agency body established by the United Nations General Assembly. The applicable human resources procedures are governed by a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Fund and the UN Secretariat.

Any candidate from a member organization of the UNJSPF applying for this post is considered as an internal candidate provided he/she has been appointed through the appointment and promotion procedures applicable in his/her respective organization.

Staff members are subject to the authority of the Secretary-General and to assignment by him or her. In this context, all staff are expected to move periodically to new functions in their careers in accordance with established rules and procedures.

This position is subject to local recruitment pursuant to staff rule 4.4 of the United Nations Staff Rules. All staff in the General Service and related categories shall be recruited in the country or within commuting distance of each office, irrespective of their nationality and of the length of time they may have been in the country. A staff member subject to local recruitment shall not be eligible for the allowances or benefits exclusively applicable to international recruitment.

Passing the Global General Service Test (GGST) is a prerequisite for recruitment consideration in the General Services and related categories in the United Nations Secretariat. Applicants who have not passed the GGST at the time of application may be invited for the test after submitting an application. Having passed the Administrative Support Assessment Test in English at the United Nations Headquarters, Economic Commission for Africa, Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia, United Nations Office at Geneva, United Nations Office at Vienna, International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda or International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia; or the United Nations Accounting or Statistical Assistant Examination at the United Nations Headquarters may be accepted in lieu of the GGST.

 

United Nations Considerations

According to article 101, paragraph 3, of the Charter of the United Nations, the paramount consideration in the employment of the staff is the necessity of securing the highest standards of efficiency, competence, and integrity.
