Junior Project Officer “Support the implementation of regenerative cocoa production” (GIZ)


As a federal enterprise, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH supports the German Government in achieving its objectives in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development. GIZ implements the project “Regenerative cocoa production to support livelihood development in Vietnam” (ReCoPro), which is financed by the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The project is implemented under a public private partnership agreement (DeveloPPP) in cooperation with Puratos Grand Place Viet Nam (PGPV). The objective of the project is to support small scale cocoa farmers in strengthening their adaptive capacity to climate change, based on diversified income opportunities in both provinces of Dak Lak and Lam Dong of Vietnam. ReCoPro has 4 main work packages:

  • Project preparation and management
  • Supporting regenerative agroforestry systems
  • Building technical capacity
  • Strengthen livelihoods and adaptive capacity through diversified income streams

ReCoPro works under the umbrella of the GIZ project “Support to Vietnam for the Implementation of the Paris Agreement” (VN-SIPA), which supports the Government of Viet Nam in establishing the framework conditions to implement the NDC and the Paris Agreement.

ReCoPro is looking for a national candidate to fill the following position:

  • Junior Project Officer
  • “Support the implementation of regenerative cocoa production”Duty station: Dak Lak
  • province, Vietnam
  • Duration: From April 2023 to December 2024 (with possibility of extension)
Main responsibilities:

The overall responsibility of this position is to support project activities, in collaboration with PGPV and its partners, in Dak Lak and Lam Dong provinces. Under the supervision and close guidance of the ReCoPro Project Manager and the Senior Project Officer, the Junior Project Officer will have the following tasks:

  • Facilitate contact and maintain a close working relationship with local stakeholders, especially DARDs and local authorities at different levels, the private sector etc.;
  • Ensure consultants carry out project activities as planned, in cooperation with DARD at all levels, and local authorities, PGPV and project service providers;
  • Support the development, dissemination, institutionalisation and application of technical concepts, manuals and guidelines of the project;
  • Support the organisation of workshops, seminars, and other events of the project;
  • Support the organisation of trainings and capacity building measures on relevant topics for project target groups;
  • Contribute to the needs identification for external support through short-term consultants;
  • Provide respective inputs for terms of reference, support the selection, and supervise and assist the contracted third parties in carrying out their assignment, including performance evaluations;
  • Accompany project technical consultants, service providers in the field;
  • Contribute and provide inputs to result-based monitoring for field implementation, including the compilation of necessary information/data, the analysis of the collected information/data etc. in close coordination with the responsible team member for project M&E;
  • Together with project partners, accompany consultants on their periodical visits to beneficiaries to get an overview on project progress and feedback from farmers;
  • Identify bottlenecks and recommendations for alternative courses of action to the project management, based on the progress monitoring of field implementation and in cooperation with project partners and the project team;
  • Provide inputs and contribute actively to various kinds of reporting tasks such as partner progress reports, the develoPPP progress reports and other reports required by partners and project management;
  • Contribute to the project M&E system and reporting;
  • Other duties and tasks at the request of the management if required.
Minimum Requirements:
  • University degree in Agriculture, Agroforestry, Climate Change and Environment, or any other discipline relevant to the assignment in combination with relevant work experience and/or relevant training courses; holding a Master’s degree would be an asset;
  • 2-4 years of work experience in a relevant field;
  • Basic knowledge of nature-based solutions, climate change adaptation, climate-smart agriculture, regenerative agriculture;
  • Fluent in English and Vietnamese (reading, speaking, writing);
  • Willingness to learn, take initiative, further develop and upskill as advised by supervisors;
  • Ability to work in a team and sometimes under high pressure/tight deadlines, dynamic and creative with an understanding of tasks mentioned above;
  • Knowledge of cocoa production and regenerative agricultural model development and working experiences in agroforestry and climate change adaptation projects;
  • Experiences in technical trainings for farmers and local partners on sustainable agroforestry development, regenerative farming, climate change adaptation etc.
