KIBV has been playing an active role in environmental protection with a specific focus on Vietnam’s littering issues. International NGOs often face a number of challenges when they enter into Vietnam and try to spread their messages or raising awareness for a cause. For that reason, KIBV has very early on outlined the rationale of their project vis-à-vis Vietnam’s central and local government with the objective of gaining their trust and credibility and in order to not only be able to operate legally in Vietnam but also to reach out to a wide public audience at for instance educational institutions.
One of KIBV’s weekly activities is organizing exhibitions and workshops in different schools in the Hòa Bình Province, ranging from elementary to high schools. During these workshops important information on the environment is exchanged and littering issues are addressed, advising the young students on their important role in protecting the environment.
Since its foundation in 2017, KIBV has visited about 40 schools throughout Northern Vietnam and introduced more than 30 thousand students to aspects of environmental protection as well as sustainability. The number of students involved in the awareness campaign is expected to grow rapidly with at least two exhibitions and workshops at schools being organized every week.
The initial results have been very encouraging as demonstrated by the positive reaction and attitude change by the young students, their motivation to learn more about recycling and promise to dispose of trash properly as well as their commitment to reduce waste. In an effort to protect the environment, countless cleanup events have been coordinated and organized by volunteers from KIBV and increasingly also other local organizations and businesses that make sustainability part of their corporate identity. KIBV quickly has changed people’s mind and behaviour on a very important topic impacting their lives. In order to increase impact on a large scale, public competitions related to environmental topics have been held which attracted thousands of participants from both rural and metropolitan areas. As part of competitions such as the “Environment Messenger” or “Green Products”, many participants were drafting articles, producing videos or other content on the subject. KIBV will continue to address and target the public, local as well as international businesses, local authorities and pursue measures to broadcast KIBV’s important mission. KIBV intends to gradually expand its project to different provinces and cities of Vietnam.
Education
Education has always played an important role in KIBV’s mission, especially since environmental awareness is part of these educational programs. One of the most popular programs that KIBV has been organizing since 2017 are free English classes for poor children. KIBV has been recruiting international volunteers with teaching experience to deliver high quality English lessons that at the same time also addressed environmental issues.
This was most welcomed and appreciated by the local people who cannot afford their kids to go to English centres. KIBV wants to support the young generation of Vietnam to help them improve their competitiveness in society. Besides learning English, children also learn about aspects of environmental issues and solutions such as pollution and recycling.
In 2019, KIBV will be working on a project at Lac Village-Mai Chau Hoa Binh with its vision to preserve and maintain this traditional weaving village of Vietnam. By offering poor and disabled women in the area free accommodation and training classes to produce traditional, handmade and sustainable weaving products, KIBV tries to make a positive environmental, humanitarian and cultural impact. Once proof of concept has been demonstrated, the program will be expanded to other traditional villages in Vietnam in order to help maintain and promote these villages with a view of fostering sustainable production.
Social and Culture
Social Care
Social care has been a cornerstone of KIBV’s activities. KIBV works hard to raise attention and support from local and interntional community to join hands and help underprivileged people in minority and rural areas of Vietnam.
KIBV office has become a collection point to receive donated clothes, food etc. Since the program started, many local people have come to offer their help and contributed the success of KIBV’s activities. Collecting clothes also reflects our environmental efforts as we try to extend the life-cycle of clothes whilst at the same time bringing people in need meaningful presents.
Since its inception, KIBV has been organizing charity events in some poor villages of Vietnam on the occasions of international children’s day, mid-autumn festival and other events at orphanages and disability centres. Volunteers of KIBV try to raise funds among the community by making recycled crafts. With a low budget but a big heart, KIBV and its volunteers try to make a difference in Vietnam – one school, one cleanup and one village at a time.
Culture Promotion
Culture promotion has becoming one of the missions of KIBV in an effort to restore, preserve and promote the cultural values of Vietnam. One of KIBV’s recent project is to preserve and promote the traditional weaving villages in Mai Chau,Hoa Binh, Vietnam. The project aims to help women in these minority villages to gain expertise skills in not only weaving but also to get a deep knowledge and practice of sustainable production concept so they could improve their competitive advantages and livelihood.
Since 2019 KIBV has implemented our project with a variety of activities to support the minority women and promote their work to both domestic and international markets. Our team also work hard in finding solutions for a transparent and efficient sustainable approaches together with existed core values from environmental and social that traditional weaving works can offer, we also focus on developing new designed and more applicable product ideas to improve the competitive advantages.
