The Opportunity
Save the Children International has an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as the Manager, Ethics & Evidence Generation London or any existing Save the Children International office location.
ROLE PURPOSE:
The Ethics and Evidence Generation Manager facilitates implementation of the Ethics and Evidence Generation policy and procedures across Save the Children International, ensuring that all data collected for research, evaluation, or other evidence generation purposes adhere to agreed standards for protection of humans in research. Additionally, the Manager liaises with other cross-cutting functions such as Child Safeguarding, Legal and Data Protection, Business and Technology Solutions, and Gender Equality and Social Inclusion to facilitate engagement and synergy to meet the strategic imperatives of Save the Children.
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
Essential
  • Demonstrated experience of engaging with and addressing issues of ethics in evidence generation, preferably through participation in or management of ethical review boards/ committees or through a track record of successfully submitting research protocols for ethical review
  • Familiarity with a range of donor, academic and/ or national ethical review requirements and procedures
  • Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to closely analyze data and evidence, to draw out implications of different interventions and make recommendations for improvement to key processes, whilst identifying and mitigating any associated risk.
  • A critical thinker with the willingness to challenge the status quo when required, using influence to drive required changes to Save the Children’s culture and practices
  • Outstanding communication skills (written & oral English) including the ability to communicate and present both at a technical and non-technical level
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to negotiate/mediate to facilitate the resolution of conflicting ethics and evidence requirements and to broker agreement on collective approaches to ethics in evidence generation in a large, federated organisation
  • Cultural awareness and experience of delivering solutions internationally
  • Intellectual curiosity and the ability to question thought partners across functional areas
  • Experience developing and conducting training programs for field staff including curriculum design, presentation and teaching skills, and training-of-trainers methods
  • Experience in facilitating productive workshops, preferably in multi-cultural contexts
  • Substantial experience of research or MEAL in international development or humanitarian response
  • Experience designing, conducting and analysing surveys and research or evaluation studies using a variety of methods, including calculating sample sizes and selecting a sampling methodology
  • Experience writing and disseminating reports and fact sheets/case studies.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines, manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and work effectively both independently and as part of multicultural teams
  • Ability to manage and prioritise unpredictable workload, including the ability and willingness to change work practices and hours in the event of major emergencies
  • Willingness to travel internationally
Desired
  • French, Spanish or Arabic
  • Data analytic and data visualization skills
We can offer circa £43,000 per annum (If based in UK) with an option of flexible working hours. If the role is based outside of the UK, National T&C (including pay) will apply.
