OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST
Under the authority and direct supervision of the Head of Office, the Communications Officer will provide support to the UNESCO programme in Viet Nam through the elaboration of a guiding communication strategy and a platform of integrated communications products and materials. In this regard, he/she will: 
  • Develop a country communication work plan and strategy for UNESCO in Viet Nam;
  • Identify key messages of the programmes, projects and activities of the Organization to promote relevant information and stories in Viet Nam through traditional and social media;
  • Draft, edit and produce communication materials (e.g. media kit with press release/s, organization overview and background, fact sheet, FAQs, articles, stories, corresponding biographies, contact information details and multimedia elements including photos, images, videos and logo) to a high professional standard;
  • Coordinate media liaison, including sending information, responding to media inquiries, identifying article and interview opportunities for UNESCO;
  • Elaborate, maintain and update a media contact and celebrity/influencers lists/database for UNESCO in Viet Nam;
Long Description
  • Develop and maintain close collaboration with journalists and media professionals, as well as with groups and organizations whose support is essential to the achievement of UNESCO’s advocacy and communication objectives;
  • Recommend established contacts, networks, resources and processes to support communication activities.
  • Maintain up-to-date the website page and the social media accounts with daily relevant information;
  • Support the production of advocacy and communication materials (e.g., films, videos, audio-visuals, etc.), and oversee the qualitative aspects of production, (e.g., quality control, translations, reviews of layout and graphic design etc.).
  • Monitor dissemination of communication materials to target audiences and participate in the evaluation of their impact and maintain a library of coverage (clippings, coverage etc.);
  • Organize and support press conferences, media events or other kind of special events related with the media and the Organization.
Long Description
  • Prepare background communication and promotional materials for briefings and visits of media, donors, and other special guests or interest groups. The task includes preparing information materials (e.g. programme summaries, country fact sheets and other communication materials that are required), and assisting in relevant planning, arrangements.
  • Monitor the public perception of UNESCO in Viet Nam and recommend appropriate actions to maintain a positive image for the Organization;
  • Performs all other related duties as required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education
  • Advanced University degree (Master or equivalent) in communications, the social sciences or any related field.
Work Experience
  • A minimum of three years of relevant professional work experience in communication, print, broadcast media or digital media, preferably in the context of development cooperation.
  • Demonstrated command of writing and editing, and the development of media and/or communication materials.
Languages
  • Excellent command of both English and Vietnamese languages (oral and written)

  • Prior UN experience or related development experience is an asset;
  • Excellent computing skills including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and related programmes; and knowledge in using digital media software including Adobe Creative Cloud Bundle such as Illustrator, Photoshop, Premiere Pro and InDesign is highly desirable.
