About IKI JET project

GIZ implements the project “Innovation Regions for a Just Energy Transition” (IKI JET), commissioned by the European Union and the German Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) as part of the International Climate Initiative (IKI). Focusing on required economic transformations in coal regions, IKI JET works with government, industry, employers, unions, communities, civil society, and academia to spur localized pathways to low-carbon and resilient energy systems and sustainable and just local economies and decent jobs, in line with the Paris Agreement and the ILO Just Transition Guidelines. The eight countries to participate in the project include Colombia, Chile, South Africa, India, Indonesia, Viet Nam, Thailand, and Mongolia.

Responsibilities

The National Intern will learn & practice by assisting the Project Manager and National Policy Expert in different activities:

  • Assist the project team in the elaboration of ideas/concepts, data collection, desk research, drafting invitations, reports, and contact with key stakeholders where relevant;
  • Support the review and research on the coal production, thermal power plants operation and just transition status quo in Vietnam under guidance of the Project Manager and National Policy Expert;
  • Support quality assurance in technical activities and deliverables of the consultant contracts where relevant;
  • Support other project activities under other action areas, as required;
  • Provide ad hoc support to document/data review/checking and verification;
  • Provide assistance to internal meetings and discussions (e.g., agenda, protocol preparation, equipment setup, minute meeting notes);
  • Assist in translating short documents and filing document (from English and Vietnamese and vice versa);
  • Support to the preparation of workshops, trainings, field visit, study tour, communication activities and other events;
  • Perform other duties and tasks at the request of management.

Requirements

  • Vietnamese nationality;
  • Available to work in Hanoi for a full-time position for a 6-month duration;
  • Currently undertaking or has recently completed postgraduate/bachelor studies in international relation, business management, finance, climate change policy, climate change mitigation or related field.
  • Have interest in the energy sector, in particular renewable energy and/or in development cooperation. Have good understanding on renewable energy is an asset;
  • Previous experience in a team – project (be it an official or intern position) is an asset.
  • Previous professional experiences in the context of international development cooperation.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Vietnamese.
  • Strong MS Office, organizational and analytical skills;
  • Highly motivated to learn and to contribute to a young and dynamic team of international and national staff with the aim to sustainable development of the power sector in Viet Nam;
  • Ability to work very precisely and flexibility;
  • Willing to take on responsibility and travel to project sites for work if necessary;
  • The internship requires university enrolment or the finalization of your degree no longer than six months ago upon commencement of the internship.
