About GIZ and the FLEGT project

The project "Support to the implementation of the FLEGT VPA in Viet Nam" (FLEGT) is commissioned by the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany (BMZ) and jointly implemented by the Viet Nam Administration of Forestry (VNFOREST) and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH.
The FLEGT project aims to support Vietnamese stakeholders, including law enforcement agencies and enterprises, in the implementation of the Voluntary Partnership Agreement on Forestry Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade (VPA/FLEGT) between the EU and Viet Nam. The project’s overall objective is to achieve sustainable management of timber supplying forests and strengthen legal compliance and Rule of Law in Vietnam.
The project is expected to achieve its objectives by end of 2024 through the implementation of the three following outputs:Interested candidates are invited to send the latest curriculum vitae, cover letter, and copy of other relevant certificates (if any) by email to <khanh.vuta@giz.de> not later than 11th May 2023.
The FLEGT project is offering an internship opportunity with details below.
- Output 1: The legal requirements and the organisational setting for FLEGT VPA implementation are improved
- Output 2: Selected jointly as VPA conform agreed (EU/Viet Nam) elements of the VNTLAS are operational
- Output 3: The impact monitoring is conducted according to the M&E framework and action plan.
Name: National Intern
Station: Hanoi, Vietnam
Duration: 6 months starting from June 1, 2023
Main activities
The National intern is expected to learn and practice by providing support and assistance to the project in various activities:
- Provide assistance to project team members in regard to internal meetings and discussions (e.g., protocol preparation, minute meeting notes, meeting’s coordinator, etc.) when needed;
- Assist with research activities, including elaboration of ideas/concepts, terms of references, data collection, desk research, drafting reports; present specific topics during technical exchanges within the team;
- Provide translation and interpretation services when needed (English and Vietnamese);
- Support and organize meetings between the project and partners as required;
- Support to quality assurance in technical activities and deliverables;
- Provide ad-hoc support to the partner organization and the team;
- Participate in the project weekly team meetings, technical exchanges;
- Participate in thematic meeting, workshops organized by partners and report back to the teams;
- Participate in and provide logistics arrangements to the preparation of workshops, trainings, field visit and other events (confirmation of participants; handout preparation, note taking, etc.);
- Support in monitoring and implementation of the technical operation;
- Perform other duties and tasks as required.
Requirements
Apart from a monthly internship allowance, the successful candidate will enjoy good learning environment and professional and dynamic working conditions.
- Vietnamese nationality;
- Currently undertaking (at least third year of study) or has recently completed postgraduate/bachelor studies in forestry, law, environment, economics, or related fields, no longer than six months from the date of graduation;
- Ability to arrange his/her timetable to take a full-time internship (40 hours/week)
- Has an interest in the forestry sector, in particular timber trade and sectoral development policy is an asset;
- Previous experience in international development cooperation is an asset;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Vietnamese;
- Strong computer, organisational and analytical skills (i.e. Office 365);
- Highly motivated to learn and willing to contribute to a sustainable forestry sector of Viet Nam in an international setting;
- Highly responsible, flexible, goal-oriented, and constructive as a team member.
