PHOTOGRAPHY MISSION
The Coffee Agroforestry and Forest Enhancement for REDD+ (CAFÉ-REDD) PROJECT
Location: Travel to Lam Dong province
Duration: From November to December 2019
1. Background
SNV Netherlands Development Organisation (SNV) is a non-profit, international development organisation founded 53 years ago, and now operating in 28 countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Our global team of local and international advisors use their expertise in three sectors – Agriculture, Renewable Energy and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene – as well as the cross-cutting topics of gender, climate change and youth employment to contribute to solving some of the leading problems facing the world today. We work with local partners to equip communities, businesses and organisations with the tools, knowledge and connections they need to increase and gain access to basic services – empowering them to break the cycle of poverty and guide their own development.
SNV has been working in Vietnam since 1995, and currently has over 30 national and international staff. SNV Vietnam operates from a head office in Hanoi and projects in over 50 provinces in the country, including in the poorest and most remote areas.
The Coffee Agroforestry and Forest Enhancement for REDD+ (CAFÉ-REDD) will reduce deforestation and forest degradation by addressing the conversion of forest to agriculture in a priority conservation landscape – The Lang Biang landscape (comprising Bi Doup Nui Ba National Park and Buffer Zone). CAFE-REDD is funded by the German Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation & Nuclear Safety (BMU) and will run from 2018 to end 2021.
The project has the following specific result areas:
- Developing a multi-stakeholder public-private partnership for forest landscape conservation and restoration and strengthened institutional capacity for climate smart landscape governance;
- Engaging the private sector in monitoring and traceability systems to promote deforestation-free coffee supply chains, and;
- Working with local ethnic minority communities and smallholder farmers to promote sustainable coffee production, including reduced coffee expansion and the promotion of coffee-agroforestry models and the development of alternative livelihood opportunities for young people.
The project seeks to broaden its impact through the development of high quality knowledge products and by hosting (sub-) national and regional learning events on REDD+, sustainable agriculture and deforestation-free supply chains.
