Privacy and Compliance Associate


Role Description The European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) was enacted in 2018, marking a paradigm shift in how we view and use data in the 21st century and leading to advances in privacy regulation across the glove. Considering the changing privacy landscape, as well as other legal advances, Ashoka’s Integrity Group ensures compliance with these regulations and prepares Ashoka for ongoing changes. The Privacy and Compliance Associate will be working at the intersection of this paradigm shift and the constant innovation of Ashoka's network, gaining exposure to a broad variety of skills and tasks while learning about this critical issue. This role will include:
  • Overseeing compliance plan implementation in Ashoka offices located in over 30 countries worldwide;
  • Ensuring compliance processes are embedded in team operations and are appropriately documented;
  • Working closely with global operations teams to ensure appropriate process integration and timely service delivery;
  • Building resources and toolkits to support data privacy functions;
  • Creating and facilitating compliance and data privacy trainings and workshops;
  • Developing articles for internal knowledge base, including how-to’s, and product descriptions;
  • Building orientation systems, processes, and resources at the intersection of technology, communications, and privacy;
  • Preparing monthly internal newsletters and generating analytics; and
  • Completing ad-hoc assignments from the team.
What we're looking for:
  • Interest in data privacy, compliance, social entrepreneurship, and nonprofit law.
  • Energy to engage with a highly collaborative team as well as self-motivation and ability to work independently;
  • Demonstrated ability to take ownership of and solve problems, and to expeditiously provide recommendations;
  • Willingness to learn and ability to translate learning into concrete actions;
  • Outstanding analytical, writing, and oral presentation skills;
  • Comfortable operating in ambiguous situations and finding paths to resolution;
  • Outstanding strategic planning and management skills;
  • Ability to integrate and balance priorities, work activities, and resources for the benefit of multiple key stakeholders; and
  • Excellent attention to detail, organization, and time management.
  • What would set you apart:A law degree from an ABA accredited law school and an interest or experience in privacy and compliance work; and
  • Background in providing advice and counsel to operating business managers regarding compliance matters.
