To do this, we hire bright individuals who are eager to engage with our team and our partners and apply evidence-based solutions to health care.The Partnership for Health Advancement in Vietnam (HAIVN) is a project of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) with Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School. Through a cooperative agreement with the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (US CDC), our team brings clinical and technical backgrounds to expand, standardize, and integrate the Vietnam National HIV program at the national level. We collaborate with the Vietnam Administration for HIV/AIDS Control (VAAC) and provincial Departments of Health to build the capacity of health workers in HIV prevention and treatment and improve the quality of care provided to people living with HIV. Our work supports the goal of ending AIDS by 2030.
Project Coordinator, HIV and Health Equity
HAIVN is seeking a physician based in Ho Chi Minh City to support project implementation across two of HAIVN’s projects in HIV and medical education reform. This person will be responsible for providing technical assistance in HIV prevention, care and treatment activities, and for providing technical assistance to medical schools engaged in curriculum reform through a health equity lens. We seek someone with a clinical background, particularly in areas of HIV, infectious disease, public health or internal medicine, and medical education. The person in this role should feel comfortable facilitating training sessions and providing one-on-one clinical mentorship to external stakeholders. If interested candidates have no specific experience in HIV, they will need to demonstrate a willingness to learn and show an interest in the topic. They will need to become comfortable presenting and answering questions about topics such as key population (KP) care, stigma and discrimination, prevention methods and the importance of patient health literacy. We are seeking candidates with knowledge of and experience working with LGBTIQ+ populations.The Project Coordinator will also provide expertise and coordinate technical assistance of HMS faculty to integrate the contents of diversity, inclusiveness, equity, social determinants of health, and the impact of climate change as part of overall curriculum redesign. This project has been ongoing since 2017 and is now being implemented at 10 medical schools across Vietnam. The Project Coordinator will plan project activities and provide technical assistance to partners to support implementation and achievement of project goals.
Job Location: This position will be based in HCMC with travel to project sites in (primarily Southern) Vietnam.
Specific Responsibilities:
Training, Clinical Mentoring, Technical Assistance, and Quality Improvement (45% of effort)- Develop and update training materials keeping current with evidence-based HIV research, care innovations, and delivery models.
- Conduct virtual and in-person training on HIV prevention, person-centered models of HIV care, stigma reduction, pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and antiretroviral therapy (ART)
- Provide training to community partners to increase community and patient health literacy.
- Coordinate training events/workshops in compliance with local regulations & requirements.
- Provide technical input to the National HIV Program in the development of national guidelines, circulars, action plans, and training materials.
- Travel to health centers to provide clinical mentoring on HIV treatment and care delivery.
- Develop and revise technical assistance tools, job aides, patient information materials, etc.
- Collaborate with and assist HMS advisors/experts to provide coordination of technical support to the HAIVN’s partner medical universities in curriculum reform to integrate the diversity, inclusiveness, equity and social determinants of health/climate change in their curriculum design and teaching.
- Provide coordination and facilitation of technical support of HMS advisors to university partners in curriculum design and teaching as well as in project activities implementation.
- Assist HMS experts with the preparation of faculty development teaching materials.
- Participate in meetings, workshops, and training activities and facilitation of follow up.
- Provide regular updates on project activities to HAIVN leadership, HMS experts and staff in Boston.
- Work with Senior Project Coordinators to implement the curricula at universities and build the capacity of university faculty in these areas.
- Translate relevant documents and provide interpretation when the primary translator is unavailable.
- Develop and track sub-project work plans and budgets and assist HAIVN partners in the planning, monitoring, and implementation of project activities.
- Contribute to the writing of project reports, technical briefs, success stories, and other communication.
Required Experience
- Medical Doctorate from Vietnamese institution
- Master’s degree in Public Health desired
- At least 5 years of experience in public health implementation
- Experience working with international donor funded projects
Required Qualifications
- Fluency in Vietnamese and English including reading, speaking and writing
- Ability to provide training, mentoring and coaching to health workers and managers
- Ability to write documents such as training curricula, operating procedures, and technical briefs
- Able to work effectively in a complex international environment
- Well-organized and able to handle multiple tasks and changing priorities
- Good computer and information technology skills
- Good interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills
- Able to work both independently and as team member; able to work under pressure
- Passionate about empowering community and improving the lives of people living with HIV
