BACKGROUND AND RATIONALE
SNV Netherlands Development Organization (SNV) is a non-profit, international development organization founded 53 years ago, and now operating in 28 countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Our global team of local and international advisors use their expertise in three sectors – Agriculture, Renewable Energy and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene – as well as the cross-cutting topics of gender, climate change and youth employment to contribute to solving some of the leading problems facing the world today. We work with local partners to equip communities, businesses and organizations with the tools, knowledge and connections they need to increase and gain access to basic services – empowering them to break the cycle of poverty and guide their own development.
SNV has been working in Vietnam since 1995, and currently has over 30 national and international staff. SNV Vietnam operates from a head office in Hanoi and projects in over 50 provinces in the country, including in the poorest and most remote areas.
The “Women’s Economic Empowerment through Agricultural Value Chain Enhancement- WEAVE” and the “Market development and competitiveness enhancement for cinnamon products to promote women's economic empowerment in Lao Cai province project”- or “Spice for Equality” for short” are – two small projects being implemented by The Netherlands Development Organization SNV in partnership with Agricultural Extension and Services Center of Lao Cai province (AESC) and other partners in Lao Cai province, such as Women Union (WU) of Lao Cai province etc. . The projects is part of the ‘Gender Responsive Equitable Agriculture and Tourism Program’ (GREAT) funded by an Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). The projects focus on improving the social and economic status of women in Lao Cai province by strengthening their engagement in cinnamon value chains.
SNV Vietnam is now seeking a dynamic and highly motivated Project Field Coordinator?to support the implementation of the projects in Lao Cai province.
JOB PURPOSE
The Field Coordinator will be based in Lao Cai city and responsible for supporting coordination and implementation of the project on the ground, working closely with local government project partners, key stakeholders (such as Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD), Women Union of Lao Cai province; Companies, development partner agencies etc.) and local communities.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Establishing and strengthening relationships
The Field Coordinator will be expected to develop and strengthen working relationships with key partners to ensure smooth implementation, including with: government agencies at provincial, district and grassroots levels, as well as with other key relevant partners and stakeholders such as companies, other development partners/projects, NGOs and local communities.
Overall work plans for components and activities should be developed by the National Project Manager, however, the Field Coordinator needs to develop detailed implementation plans e.g. for partners, communes, with target villages or groups of beneficiaries.
- Organizing project activities/field work
The Field Coordinator will support organization of project activities and field work (such as surveys, trainings, workshops, and community development) activities with local partners and communities on the ground. This will involve basic administrative tasks such as preparing permission letters, identifying venues for workshops, or other suppliers of goods/services that the project may need in line with relevant SNV procedures and cost norms under guidance by the Project Administrator and Project Manager.
- Supporting monitoring, implementation and documentation of project activities/field work
The Field Coordinator may be called upon to support the implementation of field activities. This may include accompanying consultants and other project staff on field visits, supporting facilitation of events, acting as a resource person for surveys, workshops or other project activities in the field. Accounting, financial management and reporting under guidance from the Project Administrator completing basic project financial accounting, monitoring and reporting tasks.
The staff will also be responsible for collecting information and writing reports on the results of project activities, as well as success stories resulting from the contribution from the project.
- Project documentation and communications
Preparation of brief reports on project activities, and develop success stories contributed by project activities.
Taking photos in support of project communications.
- Other tasks as required by the National Project Manager or International Technical Adviser/Sector Leader.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree social science/environment or similar fields
- At least 3-5 years’ experience working in agriculture and rural development
- Experience in working with a local partners, and work experience and skills relevant to community development and extension activities.
- Specific working knowledge and professional experience of women empowerment and community development will be a distinct advantage.
Other requirements
- Understanding of project management, coordination procedures, administrative systems, M&E systems and finance processes
- Experience in organizing field activities such as trainings, agriculture/social extension, community development activities
- Good in synthesizing of information data and reports writing
- Excellent interpersonal skills and team spirit towards work
- Good communication skills in English and Vietnamese, both spoken and written
- Good computer literacy

One year part-time contract with the potential for extension.
