Project Officer (TRAFFIC)

TRAFFIC is the leading non-governmental organisation working globally on trade in wild animals and plants in the context of both biodiversity conservation and sustainable development. TRAFFIC International, a UK-registered charity and limited company, operates through its Cambridge-based head office and a network of program offices. The head office provides worldwide leadership, coordination, and cross-regional functions. Program offices operating under the UK charity engage locally within defined geographic areas to deliver priority outcomes.

JOB DESCRIPTION

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES
  • This position will be responsible for implementing various projects within the TRAFFIC Vietnam Office. The role requires a dynamic individual capable of working on multiple projects that contribute to TRAFFIC's mission of ensuring that the wildlife trade is not a threat to the conservation of nature. This position will work closely with project partners, including government, CSO, and private sector counterparts, and coordinate with the Program Officer and other team members at TRAFFIC Vietnam & TRAFFIC Global Offices to ensure effective project implementation.
SPECIFIC DUTIES
  • Implement assigned projects effectively, including activity delivery, data collection and analysis, and impact assessment.
  • Assist in developing project methodologies and work plans, ensuring alignment with project goals and timelines.
  • Support the maintenance of relationships with relevant project stakeholders, including local government, private sector, and civil society representatives.
  • Monitor project budgets and timelines, flagging any potential issues to the Program Officer.
  • Prepare regular project reports, including quarterly, bi-annual, and annual technical reports.
  • Contribute to the development of training materials, communication products, and other project-related documents.
  • Assist in organising and participating in project events, including meetings, workshops, and training sessions.
  • Conduct field work as required, including market surveys, behaviour change assessments, and other research activities.
  • Support the Program Officer in project approval procedures and other administrative tasks.
  • Ensure compliance with TRAFFIC's policies and donor requirements throughout all project activities.
  • Adapt quickly to changing priorities and support multiple projects as needed.
  • Undertake other tasks assigned by the Senior Program Manager and Office Director.

REQUIREMENTS

  •  University degree in a relevant discipline such as social science, project management, economics, marketing, international relations, laws, conservation and/or related fields.
  • 3-5 years experience in project management, preferably with Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO) or Inter-Governmental Organizations (IGO); wildlife protection sector experience is an advantage.
  • Proven experience in project cycle management including implementation, quality control, M&E, and reporting.
  • Experience with USAID-funded projects is highly desirable.
  • Strong research and analytical skills with the ability to address complex issues clearly.
  • Sound understanding of Vietnamese culture and working with local communities.
  • Experience working with government agencies, private sector, and commercial agencies, and facilitating the relationships to reach the target audiences.
  • Knowledge of social & behaviour change projects, creative agencies, marketing firms, and communications/media, and social media platforms is a plus.
  • Willingness and ability to travel widely and frequently and to work under pressure.
  • Fluency in Vietnamese and proficiency in English (written and verbal)
  • Passion for biodiversity conservation and sustainability.
