Incumbent will join provincial trips as required.
Duties
Monitors select Vietnamese traditional media, new media including virtual forums and blogs, and international media for items on U.S.-related issues and interests, summarizes and translates them for distribution within Mission and to other USG contacts. Analyzes trends in the new media and international media critical to U.S. interests, advises PAO, IO, and Press & Media Coordinator on such issues. Organizes, advises on appropriate themes, media targets for Mission’s media briefings, press conferences, and media programs to advance Mission interests. Advises on and organizes media-related education and exchange programs and grant opportunities. Serves as official Post photographer for VIP visits and other significant events.Qualifications and Evaluations
- Requirements:
- EXPERIENCE: At least two years of experience in communications/media-related work as journalist, researcher or writer required.
- Education Requirements: University degree in social sciences, international relations, journalism, or English is required.
- Evaluations: This may be tested.
- LANGUAGE: Fluency Level Speaking/Reading/Writing of English is required. Fluency Level Speaking/Reading/Writing of Vietnamese is required. Please clarify level of your English and Vietnamese language skill on your application.
- SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Analytic skills: Must be able to distinguish important commentary from straightforward factual reporting and decide which aspects to include in reports. Must be able to “read between the lines” to understand and report on local developments and how they are portrayed by media.Communication/Interpersonal skills: Must be able to identify items in the press of interest to media reaction readers and to briefly and accurately present them in English. Must have strong drafting and translation skills. Must be able to develop and maintain excellent contacts and working relationships with journalists, editors, and government officials. Management skills: Must be able to bring together offices and agencies from across the Mission to identify opportunities for and organize appropriate media engagement. Technical skills: Must be able to serve as the Mission’s back-up photographer. Availability: Must be available to travel throughout the host country to develop professional contacts and create content (photo/video of ambassador’s travel, PD programs, etc.). - Locally Employed Staff, including Members of Household (MOHs), and Third-Country Nationals (TCNs), working at the U.S. Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam may receive a compensation package that may include health, separation, and other benefits. For EFMs, benefits should be discussed with the Human Resources Office. The pay plan is assigned at the time of the conditional offer letter by the HR Office.
