About the Australian Government's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade

The role of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) is to advance the interests of Australia and Australians internationally. This involves strengthening Australia’s security, enhancing Australia’s prosperity, delivering an effective and high quality overseas aid program and helping Australian travellers and Australians overseas. DFAT provides foreign, trade and development policy advice to the Australian Government. DFAT also works with other Australian government agencies to drive coordination of Australia’s pursuit of global, regional and bilateral interests.

About the Vietnam Australia Centre

The Vietnam Australia Centre (VAC) draws together Australian and Vietnamese experts to support Vietnam’s future leadership in addressing national, regional and international challenges. The VAC is a hub for activities that deliver mutual benefits to both countries. Through the VAC, Vietnam and Australia will collaborate to strengthen Vietnamese public sector leadership, research and policy development www.vietauscentre.org The VAC represents a long-term commitment and shared vision between Australia and Vietnam to work in partnership to address shared challenges and seize bilateral and regional opportunities as they become available. The VAC was established in June 2022. The five Foundational Partners include, from Australia the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and from Vietnam, the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics (HCMA), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), the Party Central Committee’s Commission for External Relations (ERC) and the Office of the Government (OOG). The VAC is being delivered through Aus4Skills by a contractor on behalf of the Australian Government.

About the position

The Senior Program Manager supports the implementation of the VAC Strategy (2023-2026) to ensure a coordinated and effective implementation of activities to meet the programs intended outcomes after 4 years, thereby contributing to its longer-term outcomes in 8 to 10 years. The position provides high level program management and support to policy implementation on public sector leadership in Vietnam. The Senior Program Manager works with key senior government and partner agency stakeholders who are involved in the VAC, brings them together and works with them to drive the program forward. The position works with a high level of autonomy on a complex project that has political significance. The position works closely across the Australian Embassy to enable delivery of Australian whole of government priorities and policy engagement in the VAC.
