The Opportunity
The Regional Business Development Manager (RBDM) for Business Partnership & Innovation in Asia will focus on designing effective programmes which leverage the unique resources and capabilities of the private sector. The role holder will be responsible for identifying and developing innovative partnership opportunities with business and philanthropists, as well as multi-sector partnerships. They will provide surge support and capacity building to develop new partnership models, grow strategic relationships with existing partners, actively track and analyse country and regional pipeline and portfolios, and ensure use of well-coordinated and competitive proposal management processes.
The RBDM for Business Partnership & Innovation in Asia will actively support growth of the region’s income for the Movement to ensure it is aligned with the region’s strategic priorities, will lead on key multi-country or strategic funding opportunities, and will support the Asia Regional Resource Mobilisation Director in providing strategic leadership to countries on private sector resource mobilisation across all countries in the region, including leveraging private partnerships to secure institutional funding. Through involvement in all stages of partnership and programmatic development – from ideation and scoping meetings with partners, through to concept note and proposal delivery – this role will ensure proposals are high quality, strategically fit the needs and priorities of each partner, and are designed to deliver strong impact for children in the wider region. This includes working across the spectrum of partnership approaches with the private sector, from developing impactful corporate philanthropy partnerships, to identifying new partnership modalities and/or innovative approaches to financing or structuring partnerships with business and philanthropists.
As a result, they will act as the main focal point for Country Offices in the Asia region when it comes to private sector business development needs and capacity gaps and will be responsible for reporting on regional pipeline and portfolio analyses. In so doing, they will actively support members and countries to identify, qualify, and track private funding and partnership opportunities across their region in a systematic manner in pursuit of local funding strategies.
Key Responsibilities
- Support on early engagement, scoping, and ideation for partnerships with business, philanthropy, and multi-stakeholder coalitions in collaboration with SC members and country colleagues.
- Lead engagement and manage the relationship of corporate donors (where there is no Member coverage).
- Attend external meetings with potential business and philanthropic partners, as needed, supporting design workshops and leading key internal stakeholders through early conversations.
- Proactively identify and develop opportunities within new and existing partners which allow Save the Children to achieve even greater impact for children.
- Stay abreast of the latest trends and best practices in NGO-business partnerships and sector leading examples outside of Save the Children to inform strategy and ongoing conversations within the movement.
High-quality programme development for business and philanthropic partners – 15%
- Produce high quality, compelling, and accurate materials to engage businesses and secure partnerships, including concept notes, specific thematic work overviews and full proposals.
- Working with Proposal Writing Coordinator, proactively address challenges that may hinder the proposal development process, where necessary.
- Prepares all necessary groundwork for multi-country or multi-regional proposal development and management, assembles proposal teams for multi-country opportunities, provides effective proposal management at regional level and undertakes quality assurance of proposals to ensure high quality competitive proposals in order to successfully secure business partners’ funds at scale.
- Strengthen Country Office capabilities to facilitate effective in-person and COVID-adapted online proposal design workshops and undertake design workshop facilitation, when called on to do so, including developing workplans and lessons learned.
Humanitarian Response – 15%
- Drive effective and joined-up business development for Category 1&2 Emergencies within the region.
- When necessary, deploy immediately to take direct leadership of first phase business development of Category 1&2 major responses as required.
- Provide sustained regional backstopping of business development over the life of the response.
Portfolio Management – 10%
- Understand and effectively report on the region’s private sector pipeline and priority funding gaps, as agreed with Country Directors and regional leadership. These may include thematic/program gaps, co-financing gaps, and operational sustainability gaps.
- Proactively work with the Regional Office and SCI Centre Resource Mobilisation teams to drive improvement in strategic portfolio planning across the movement.
Capacity Strengthening and Knowledge Management – 10%
- Support meaningful engagement with businesses based in and around the region, working closely with business development colleagues across the region to enhance partnership and proposal development, ensuring new proposal and partnerships are high quality, strategically fit the needs and priorities of each partner and are designed to deliver strong impact for children.
- With guidance and support from the Global Business Partnerships & Innovation Network and SCI Centre Resource Mobilisation team, embeds expertise around business partnerships across the region and supports Country Office New Business Development, Technical, Finance, Account Management, and Programme Delivery and Quality staff with capacity building around private/corporate-specific resource mobilisation.
- Share best practice and ways of working by contributing to regional Business Development Communities of Practice alongside the Regional Business Development Manager (Institutional), Country Office New Business Development staff, and Members.
- Coordinates between Country Offices and with the Regional Office resource mobilisation team to fill gaps in support, as necessary. When supporting on specific opportunities, links with members to access intelligence, opportunities, and skills.
- Maintains strong knowledge management systems (OneNet, Workplace, Teams, etc.) to support regional communication and continuous learning.
