Established in 1951, IOM is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.
Organizational Context and Scope:
Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission and direct supervision of the National Communications Officer, the Senior Communications Assistant will provide inputs and coordinate the execution and monitoring of the communications and social media strategy to promote IOM and its works, and to raise awareness of the human trafficking and human smuggling issues in Viet Nam. S/He will provide support to the IOM Viet Nam internal and external communications and contribute to ensuring the quality and consistency of communications and social media presence of IOM in Viet Nam.
Responsibility and Accountability:
- Contribute to the development and implementation of the Communications strategy and visibility plan of IOM Viet Nam.
- Provide specialized support to the National Communications Officers, senior officers and staff in IOM Viet Nam in the production and delivery of communications materials, social media contents, services and through the use of innovative tools to promote the activities of IOM Viet Nam and its’ diverse projects.
- Provide editorial and technical assistance in key aspects of media and communications, and undertake duty travel to support Viet Nam Mission visibility, the production of communications materials, and liaison with internal projects’ counterparts.
- Produce and edits external contents, including social media contents and articles, support projects in the drafting and publication of their briefing notes, stories, and audio- visual contents, as well as contribute to the management of IOM Viet Nam’s website.
- Support the National Communications Officer with relations with media and other stakeholders to promote the work of IOM and to better position the Organization as a point of reference for public information on migration.
- Support coordination and contribute to drafting messaging and background information to support IOM’s response to media as well as internal and external messages coherency on migration development and policy issues.
- Support the organization and management of outreach events and initiatives designed to raise IOM’s visibility in Viet Nam.
- Promote coordination, collaborative exchange and information sharing among all IOM staff on all aspects of communications and media knowledge.
- Support the National Communications Officer when requested in liaising and collaborating with communications and media counterparts within the UN in Viet Nam, governmental and non-governmental partner agencies, including the UN Communications Group to develop and implement joint campaigns and visibility events.
- Perform any other duties as may be required.
Required qualifications and experience:
EDUCATION
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, Journalism, Political or Social Science, International Studies or another relevant field from an accredited institution with minimum of four years of relevant professions experience is required.
EXPERIENCE
- Experience in migration and counter-trafficking awareness raising campaign is a distinct advantage;
- Five years of experience in journalism and/or working with the media;
- Demonstrate high competency as a writer, editor in English and Vietnamese;
- Strong communication, presentation and interpersonal skills as well as strong creative thinking;
- Knowledge of graphic design, web, social media and video production;
- Experience in dealing with diverse counterparts from government and UN agencies is desirable
SKILLS
- Excellent computer skills - Word, Excel, Power Point, as well as experience in using Photoshop and Video editing tools;
- Ability to use own initiative and work under pressure with minimum supervision;
- Attention to detail and ability to organize; and,
- Self-motivated and objective driven.
LANGUAGES
- IOM’s official languages are English, French, and Spanish, all staff members are required to be fluent in one of the three languages.
- Working knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish) is an advantage.
