Who we are
Our vision is a world free of preventable disease, in which everyone everywhere can reach their full potential. We were founded in 2002 with a £20m grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and started life at Imperial College London as the Schistosomiasis Control Initiative. Consistently ranked globally as one of the most cost-effective non-profit initiatives, we have received significant funding since our inception including from the UK Department of International Development, USAID and philanthropic investors.
In 2019 we became an independent organisation, and the SCI Foundation continues to work across multiple sectors in numerous countries in Sub-Saharan Africa to deliver effective and robust health programmes that have a lasting impact.
What we do
Working in partnership with Governments, the SCI Foundation supports and facilitates public health programmes that reduce the impact of preventable diseases like schistosomiasis and soil-transmitted helminthiasis.
We provide technical and financial support to Ministries of Health, in line with their own strategies and plans, to enhance sustainability and strengthen health systems within countries affected by these diseases. We work to scale up their government-implemented deworming programs by providing advisory support and conducting research and analysis on the outcomes.
To date, our team has supported up to 60% of all global schistosomiasis treatments being delivered annually and we are broadening our reach to coordinate with health programmes for other preventable diseases, as well as supporting disease prevention measures such as water, sanitation and hygiene and the management of the impacts of these diseases on individuals.
Who we are looking for
We are looking for an exceptional French speaking Senior Monitoring, Evaluation and Research (MER) Advisor to join our friendly and dynamic team.
Reporting to the Director of MER, the Senior MER Advisor will have management responsibility within the MER team and will provide technical, scientific and managerial expertise on the development, planning and implementation of MER activities across large and complex Neglected Tropical Disease (NTD) control programmes with a particular focus on schistosomiasis and soil-transmitted helminths (STH) control.
The Senior MER Advisor will be responsible for introducing, where needed, new technologies and evidence-based practices that will increase the effective and efficient delivery of SCIF’s processes and programme support.
They will have opportunities to, and be responsible for, engaging with high level stakeholders including Ministries of Health, key partners in programmatic M&E, international agencies such as the World Health Organization, and will support SCIF’s collaborations with research partners. As such, the candidate will have strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to explain and build capacity of/for epidemiological concepts to non-experts.
The post holder will hold a post graduate qualification (or equivalent) in public health, epidemiology, or a related quantitative discipline. They will have strong management, administrative and leadership experience, preferably in public health, along with experience of working in complex and/or innovative environments, cross-culturally and in an international and public-private environment.
A willingness to travel regularly to Africa and other regions is essential.
