JOB DESCRIPTION  

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES 

This role will: 

  • Advise and support the Wildlife TRAPS Leader in the development and implementation of a comprehensive strategy to strengthen and sustain efforts to reduce future threats associated with zoonotic diseases linked to illegal wildlife trade • Provide day-to-day direction of all SBC activities for the Project, including those intended to build constituencies and develop long-term commitment to wildlife values across the broader public in coordination and consultation with TRAFFIC colleagues, by leading other staff, subcontractors, and grantees. 
  • Collaborate with and build upon the SBC efforts of a host of other internationally assisted partnership and civil society activities in Viet Nam and the other Wildlife TRAPS target countries through the presentation of the evidence-based SBC frameworks and outcomes for USAID TRAPS. 
  • Liaise with Governments of target countries Viet Nam on issues of SBC for Wildlife TRAPS. 

SPECIFIC DUTIES: 

The main duties of the Social and Behaviour Change Project Manager will include, but not be limited, to the following: 

  • Acting as a frontline project manager for at least three social and behaviour change (SBC) pilot projects, including lead responsibility for coordinating the development of creative concepts and campaign material aiming to promote a safe, sustainable and traceable supply of wildlife products used for meat, medicine and pets. Core activities will include preparing briefs and commissioning relevant research and communication agencies and implementation partners in the target countries for the work, supervising implementation and evaluating impact 
  • Taking lead responsibility to build Community engagement around and approaches to, social and behaviour change initiatives covering zoonotic, wildlife consumption and conservation themes. Early outputs associated with this work will include a survey of Community members, a stakeholder and situation analysis, and workshop to consult and confirm SBC priority approaches • Lead on the development of country-level partnerships with relevant stakeholders and linking to TRAFFIC SBC staff to facilitate the delivery of Wildlife-TRAPS Project activities and the activities across the wider TRAFFIC organisation • Providing quality assurance that project activities are being delivered on time and on budget, drafting reports and supporting the management of donor relationships, liaising closely with the Project Supervisors to flag issues arising and suggest strategies and solutions 
  • Ensuring learning is shared with the Social and Behaviour Change Community of Experts and Practitioners, liaising with relevant contacts to ensure the transfer of experience and insight 
  • Providing broader support to programme development with TRAFFIC’s work on behavioural change • Ensuring the technical quality and timely delivery of work plan activities; including conducting a rigorous evaluation of project activities and interventions and suggesting adaptive management approaches to amplify project impact 
  • Developing SBC and outreach materials to strengthen international approaches to addressing trans-continental trade of illegal wildlife products between Africa and Asia, disease prevention, linkages between human/animal health, good governance and corruption and food security.  

REQUIREMENTS  

  • Degree level qualification in a relevant discipline (Social Marketing, Behavioural Science, Communications, or a related field) • Experience of applying behaviour change approaches; in conservation, health, or another sector  • Experience of working in Asian and/or African contexts with a good understanding of cultural differences • Experience in communicating programme objectives to and in working with government and intergovernmental agencies, non-governmental organisations, civil society, private sector and other conservation partners 
  • Strong public speaking and presentation skills 
  • Project Management, planning and implementation experience with multi-year projects incl. GAA donors  • Strong communicator- must be fluent in English, with excellent written and spoken communication skills. Additional language skills an advantage. 
  • A strong team player who is also able to work on own initiative and be a self-directed lateral thinker. APPLICATIONS
