Senior Specialist


Summary Save the Children is a leading agency in adolescent sexual and reproductive health (ASRH), with a portfolio spanning more than 20 countries. We support age and life-stage tailored programs that include interventions to reach adolescent boys and girls, their parents and families, their communities, and the health system. Save the Children’s work includes innovative behavior and social norm change work, youth-friendly services with an increasing emphasis on adolescent responsive health systems, and multisectoral positive youth development programming. The ASRH Sr. Specialist will provide ASRH technical assistance and capacity strengthening to ASRH projects and initiatives in several countries, primarily in Sub-Saharan Africa and Asia, and to two global USAID projects. In this position, you will contribute to new business development in ASRH, ASRH innovation, and ASRH collaborations across Save the Children and will report to the Advisor for Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health. What You’ll Be Doing (Essential Duties) Technical Assistance and Capacity Strengthening – 50%
  • Provide ASRH technical assistance (TA) to project teams, youth-led organizations, local partners, and ministries of health, including for projects funded by USAID and private donors, for the design and implementation of age- and life-stage tailored social and behavior change programs with interventions across the socio-ecological model, with a particular emphasis on very young adolescents and first time parents.
  • Provide TA on adolescent and youth responsive health services and systems.
  • Strengthen staff technical capacity in ASRH, including implementation of the Save the Children Common Approach to ASRH programming.
Technical Thought Leadership and Program Learning and Documentation– 40%
  • Implement ASRH technical thought leadership initiatives, including as part of global projects.
  • Lead the development, writing, and dissemination of family planning (FP) and ASRH technical briefs and knowledge products.
  • Develop global ASRH program tools and assessments, particularly related to adolescent and youth responsive health services and youth-led social accountability for family planning.
  • Contribute to program reports, including drafting and reviewing sections.
  • Conceptualize, convene, and present in ASRH technical consultations, webinars, and other virtual engagements internally and externally.
  • Facilitate and contribute to ASRH external communities of practice.
Resource Mobilization – 10%
  • Facilitate ASRH program design, contribute technical content, and review drafts for ASRH or integrated proposals.
  • Cultivate partnerships with diverse organizations related to ASRH programming, research, and learning.
  • Support country offices in positioning for funding opportunities.
  • Stay abreast of global ASRH technical and donor funding trends to ensure that proposals are evidence-based and responsive to donor requirements and priorities.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 5-7 years' relevant experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in public health or related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Experience working with public health issues in a low- or middle-income country.
  • Technical understanding of adolescent and youth responsive health systems, contraception/family planning for adolescents and youth, social and behavior change for ASRH, and gender transformative programming for adolescents and youth.
  • Demonstrated experience leading technical learning, documentation, and knowledge management in ASRH projects.
  • Proven technical writing and public speaking experience.
  • Demonstrated experience developing global ASRH program tools and guidance.
  • Proven understanding of ASRH monitoring and evaluation, including experience supporting evaluations and using evidence and learning to rapidly adapt programming.
  • Experience contributing to proposals for USAID, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and/or other relevant ASRH donors.
  • Familiarity with USAID project cycles, policies, and procedures.
  • Demonstrated success to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with colleagues from diverse backgrounds and across different organizations.
  • Willingness and ability to travel internationally up to 20%
