Short-term Producers for PhotoBook for Oxfam in Vietnam
Time frame: December 2019 - January 2020
Project title: PhotoBook for Oxfam in Vietnam 2020
1. Background
Oxfam is a global movement of people who are fighting inequality to beat poverty together. As a confederation of 20 Oxfam organizations in more than 90 countries, we tackle the inequalities that make and keep people poor.
In Vietnam, Oxfam is one of the leading international non-governmental organizations (INGOs), especially in rural development, disaster risk reduction and humanitarian response, civil society development, ethnic minorities, and women’s empowerment. We work to seek transformative changes in policies, practices and beliefs in ways that will
fundamentally improve the lives of poor and marginalized women and men, and ensure that all citizens have the same opportunity to enjoy their rights.
We want to produce a quality Photobook to give to our partners on Lunar New Year 2020.
2. Purpose of the Assignment
Objective: To produce the soft copy of 1 Photobook that is a meaningful gift that recipients want to cherish and keep. It must show the specific characteristics of Vietnamese culture. Finally, it integrates Oxfam's theme “Human Economy” for a sustainable development of Vietnam.
3. Idea
Oxfam wants to make miniature models that:
- Depict the development of Vietnam over identified milestones.
- Look to a hopeful future with the theme Human Economy.
Models will then be photographed and designed to make the PhotoBook.
4. Scope of work
General requirements (detailed requirements will be discussed later with selected consultants): The final product needs to meet the following requirements in terms of content (story) and techniques.
- Conceptualize the models:
Details: What development period is significant in Vietnam? What angle in people’s lives you would choose tothat development? Does that angle put human at center?
Technical requirements: 10 concepts for 10 models
- Construct models:
Details: Materials must be used wisely to fully depict the development period.
Technical requirements: Styles:Rustic, nostalgic (for models depicting the past -when Vietnam is underdeveloped); Positive and modern (for models in the recent period - when Vietnam’s development is picking up speed); Inspiring, optimistic, modern (for models with Oxfam’s theme)
- Story writing:
Details: Each model will be accompanied by 1 story that emotionall captures the lives of people during that period.
Technical requirements: 300-400 words/story. The stories must be in Vietnamese and English.
- Design the PhotoBook:
Details: Each model will be photographed at 2-3 angles. Consultant will then use the photographs & stories to design the PhotoBook.
Expected timeline:
- Recruitment: Dec – W2,3
- Contracting: Dec – W3
- Draft products: Jan – W2
- Final products: Jan – W3
5. Management
The Communication team of Oxfam in Vietnam will be responsible for the overall management of this consultancy assignment. Designated staff from the Communication team will be working closely with the consultant during the time.
6. Requirements
- Strong profile and experience in making miniature models, especially models depicting Vietnam.
- Strong experience in designing and writing content.
- Basic knowledge on development work and relevant issues.
