The Woolcock Institute of Medical Research is affiliated with the University of Sydney in Australia and is recognized as one of the leading research institutions for respiratory diseases and sleep disorders. Operating in Vietnam since 2009, we have undertaken large operational, epidemiological and clinical research projects and run training in epidemiological and operational research methods for Vietnamese doctors and public health workers. The Woolcock Institute has three research centres and offices in Ha Noi, Ho Chi Minh City and Ca Mau. Currently we directly employ about 70 full-time staff and coordinates multiple study projects within lung health management and treatment across eleven provinces. We also expand research activity to other fields including antimicrobial resistance.

Overview: This project evaluates an integrated health-sector strategy to combat COPD and asthma in Vietnam (V-CAPS) in 4 provinces and cities including Hanoi, Thanh Hoa, Ca Mau and An Giang.

Location: Hanoi, with possibility of domestic travel

Duration: 12 months appointment, with consideration for subsequent extension. This position will begin in March 2019.

Roles:

• To work with a study manager closely and with the whole V-CAPS study team throughout the study
• To contribute to all aspects of the study based on the discussion with a study manager (document preparation, data collection, data entry, analysis etc.)
• To engage with relevant stakeholders and assist their efforts where applicable
• To prepare and participate in all workshops, trainings and meetings related to the V-CAPS study
• Any other additional tasks if required

Duties and Responsibilities

• Participate in relevant training course and workshop related to VCAPS and smoking cessation, to learn and fully understand the study protocols and procedures
• Work with partners to recruit target group/participants into the study as needed
• Contribute to planning and executing the call centre service for smoking cessation support

1. Implementing call centre counselling for smokers who intend to quit smoking, ensure that the protocol is strictly followed
2. Participate in the procedures of sending SMS to patients as needed
3. Record data completely and accurately as required
4. Perform data filing correctly and completely
5. Maintaining facilities and equipment as required for implementing call centre service
6. Taking part in training as a co-trainer to provide support on smoking cessation for VCAPS site staff
7. Provide regular reports for the Study manager on the implementation of the hotline.

• Assisting in the development of the Standard Operating Procedures, study documentation and forms, and promotion materials of VCAPS and in smoking cessation part in particular
• Create and maintain relations with partners for Woolcock Institute of Medical Research in general and in the field
• Communicate and report any issues occurred in implementation timely with the study manager for solutions
• Participate in report development by providing comments and inputs.

Qualifications

• University degree in Public Health, Pharmacy or health-related field
• Experience working with data to improve study outcomes
• Experience in quantitative and qualitative research
• Experience in engaging with government and/or non-government partners
• Knowledge of Vietnamese employment regulations
