BACKGROUND
TRAFFIC, the wildlife trade monitoring network, works to ensure that trade in wild animals and plants is not a threat to the conservation of nature. We actively monitor and investigate wildlife trade and provide information to diverse audiences worldwide as a basis for effective conservation policies and programmes.
There is a vast amount of information available concerning wildlife trade in general, and illegal wildlife trade in particular. However, unless it is captured in an organized and systematic manner, analysed and transformed into actionable information, it will not achieve its full potential as a tool to disrupt illegal wildlife trade.
JOB DESCRIPTION
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES
This position will be responsible for activities related to physical and online market, including conceptualizing, designing, developing methodology, analysing data, reporting, and follow-up actions. This position will work closely with Programme Officers and Project Officers of related projects. This position will report to the Senior Programme Officers.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Design, plan and carry out physical and online market surveys to acquire information about illegal wildlife trade
• Develop plans/protocols, budgets, and questions for surveys
• Collect and report survey data in an organized manner
• Regularly report on progress of surveys to the Senior Programme Officers, and Office Director
• Prepare Back to Office reports following field work and surveys
• Collaborate closely with the Programme Officers and Project Officers of related projects and activities
• Undertake analysis of survey data
• Draft and contribute to technical reports of survey data
• Undertake other tasks relevant to surveys
• Any other duties as assigned by supervisor
REQUIREMENTS
• • Native Vietnamese speaker with fluency in verbal and written English; • Familiarity with and an interest in conducting surveys; • Ability to identify wildlife from parts and products; • Ability to analyse large data sets; • Experience with the collection and collation of data and developing survey methodologies; • An eye for detail and a keen interest and ability to recognize and uncover connections between data are a must; • Problem solver with critical thinking skills; • Well-organized with time management skills; • Adept at Excel; • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively as part of a diverse team as well as independently, with respect for and sensitivity to multi-cultural approaches • Independent thinker that shows initiative in developing innovative approaches |
