The Projetcs
To support the Vietnamese authorities on their path to sustainable development, Vietnam’s components of the regional project “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle to Protect the Marine Environment and Coral Reefs” (3RproMar) (2020-2025) and the regional project “ASEAN Municipal Solid Waste Management Enhancement” (AMUSE) (2022-2025) are being implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and funded by the governments of Viet Nam and Germany, with case studies in the Mekong Delta and Da Lat city.
3RproMar’s objective is to support the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) member states in the improvement of implementation capacities for reducing land-based waste leakage to protect the seas. The project outcome includes four output areas: (1) enhancing the regional cooperation and knowledge management among the ASEAN working groups, (2) developing national measures for waste leakage reduction within the focal ASEAN member states (Cambodia, Indonesia, Philippines, and Viet Nam) as well as their transmission to strategies at the local level, (3) involving the private sector to develop approaches for waste leakage reduction along the value chain and (4) implementing pilot projects in selected municipalities.
AMUSE’s objective is to enhance the capacity of public and private agencies involved in optimizing the management and recycling of municipal waste in small and medium-sized tourist cities. The project outcome includes four output areas: (1) enhancing regional cooperation and knowledge management, (2) supporting medium-sized tourist cities in the implementation of sustainable waste management and (3) implementing pilot projects in Da Lat city, considering sustainability and gender sensitivity.
