Nathan Associates Inc. is implementing a USAID project in Vietnam to support the adoption and implementation of a risk management approach to customs, which will facilitate the implementation of the World Trade Organization’s Trade Facilitation Agreement of which both Vietnam and the United States (U.S.) are members. Nathan Associates Inc. will work with The General Department of Vietnam Customs (GDVC) to ensure simplification, harmonization, professionalization, and adoption and implementation of risk management customs approaches at the national and provincial levels to expedite cross-border trade and to enable Vietnam to implement WTO TFA commitments. The Project team will work with the GDVC, private sector and other Government of Vietnam (GVN) agencies to simplify policies and across GVN units, foster stronger linkages between national and provincial levels, and improve coordination and implementation at the provincial level.

Proposed Personnel:             Program Intern (2 positions available)

Period of Performance:         July 19 – December 31, 2021, with possibility of extension

Note: This position is open to Vietnamese nationals only. Foreign nationals currently in Vietnam with valid visas, work permits or work permit exemptions may be considered in line with the law.

Project Background:

The Program will work with The General Department of Vietnam Customs (GDVC) to ensure simplification, harmonization, professionalization, and adoption and implementation of risk management approaches at the national and provincial levels to expedite cross-border trade and to enable Vietnam to implement WTO TFA commitments. Overview

As the Program continues to engage various stakeholders across several activities, it is important that the Program effectively implement activities while building the capacity of staff, counterparts, and other partners. The Program Intern will provide invaluable support to ongoing activities.

Responsibilities and Tasks

  • Support Program activities and tasks such as drafting, organizing files, copyediting, formatting, events support, data visualization, and other tasks as determined by the Programs & Communications Manager or his designee.
  • Support ongoing activities through administrative or technical support.
  • Other tasks as requested by the Chief of Party and Programs & Communications Manager or their designees.

Deliverables

  • Weekly report on tasks accomplished and tasks for the following week.
  • End of internship report summarizing lessons learned and recommendations for the Program.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Currently undertaking or recently completed bachelor studies in international relations, communications, management, foreign trade, economics, business administration, or other related fields.
  • Computer literacy and excellent skills with MS Office software (Word, Excel, Power Point) and basic design software.
  • Excellent language skills in English and Vietnamese, written and spoken.
  • Highly motivated with the ability to work independently.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and ability to work in a team.
  • Open mind and keen to learn and work in a dynamic and intercultural environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current or recently completed master’s studies.
  • Excellent multimedia design skills (print and digital materials, videos, etc.)
  • Strong interest in international development
  • Knowledge of trade facilitation and customs issues.

The Program intern will report to Programs & Communications Manager or his designee.
