Main purpose of job:

The Development Team of the British Embassy in Hanoi is responsible for project activity, reporting, analysis and advocacy on a wide range of social and economic development issues. This includes education, health, science and technology, gender equality, rule of law, human rights and civil society space. They also support other teams to deliver impactful cooperation activities, for example on infrastructure, financial services, and human trafficking. This internship will provide an opportunity to have hands-on experience and practical knowledge of the project cycle, including design, implementation and closure. The role holder will gain exposure across our development portfolio, including policy and programme work focused on cooperation for sustainable economic development. The Programme Intern will work across the team to help deliver this. The position is suitable for proactive, confident and organised individuals, who have an interest in project management, development issues and diplomatic affairs.

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?

  • Provide administrative support to project managers;
  • Coordinate the Programme Board, including the preparation of periodic board meetings;
  • Collect information relating to the ODA portfolio of the UK and other donors in Vietnam;
  • Assist in data processing (for PowerPoint presentations, infographics, etc.);
  • Support development and delivery of the Development Team’s communications plan;
  • Organise events and activities related to development issues and UK Government projects;
  • Prepare briefing, presentations and other materials for external events;
  • Support the team’s reporting and research on development issues;
  • Attend meetings and take minutes.

Essential qualifications, skills and experience

  • Strong organisational and research skills;
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and adaptability to work in changing environments and nature of projects;
  • Demonstrated keen interest in working with numbers and data;
  • Computer proficiency in standard software applications (MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Desirable qualifications, skills and experience  

  • Project management experience
  • Relevant experience in working at development agency, non-governmental organisation, or diplomatic mission
