Job Description (Roles and Responsibilities)  

Main purpose of job:
  • The British Embassy Hanoi (BEH) is seeking a talented and enthusiastic Climate Team Coordinator to support the Embassy’s portfolio of climate, energy and nature policy and programmes in Vietnam.
  • You should be a dynamic and quick-learning individual with experience working in a multicultural environment.
  • You should know how to prioritise tasks, quickly adapt to new and changing project settings, and collaborate well with others.
  • The successful candidate will have the exciting opportunity to support UK-Vietnam collaboration on climate change, energy transition and nature priorities to support Vietnam’s net zero climate ambition.
  • The successful candidate will work within BEH’s climate team, which oversees the UK’s climate and nature engagement with Vietnam across the following priorities:
  • Co-leading Vietnam’s Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) on behalf of the International Partners Group (IPG) with the Government of Vietnam to support public and private financing of clean energy investments.
  • Providing targeted technical assistance through a portfolio of strategic climate and nature programmes, including on green cities and infrastructure, accelerating energy transitions, coastal climate resilience, biodiversity and nature, mobilising green finance.
  • Working closely with government departments and businesses in the UK to drive UK-Vietnam climate partnerships in key sectors – such as renewable energy, grid infrastructure, climate technology and climate financing.
  • The job holder is expected to provide dedicated communications support on the team’s climate priorities, alongside corporate administrative including team’s budget support. They will provide strong stakeholder communication, alongside attention to detail to ensure high quality budget management and reporting.
  • The successful candidate will work within BEH’s Climate Team, which leads on the Vietnam Just Energy Transition Partnership, broader energy transition policy and diplomacy, climate mitigation, adaptation and climate finance policy. The team also supports a number of UK-funded climate programmes.
  • It is critical that the post-holder demonstrates strong communications, administration, finance and budgeting, and stakeholder management skills. As part of this role, you will lead on the climate team’s internal and external communications coordination, and team financial and logistical management (with support from senior members).  You will need to have excellent communication and collaboration skills and maintain good working relationships with colleagues within UK in Vietnam Network (UKIV), and a range of stakeholders within the UK and Vietnam governments, wider development partners and international stakeholders.

Key responsibilities for this role: Team communications support (40%)
  • Draft and monitor implementation of the Communications Strategy for the Climate Team to showcase key messages to external stakeholders on a range of climate issues, such as: energy transition, climate change, nature, biodiversity conservation, illegal wildlife trafficking.
  • With support, lead public climate diplomacy communications and stakeholder outreach materials.
  • Coordinate responses to press enquiries/engagements in collaboration with climate team and Embassy comms teams.
  • Work closely with the UKIV communications team to help enhance our social media engagement on climate issues.
Administrative support for policy, programme and corporate priorities (30%)
  • Provide logistical and administrative support for team priorities, including relevant transport and diary arrangements, to support high quality events, activities and corporate priorities.
  • Provide high quality meeting minute-taking and be prepared to support on English-Vietnamese translation, when required.
  • Support logistic arrangements of major climate events, meetings and stakeholder visits, working closely with wider team members.
Finance support (30%)
  • With support, undertake team budget monitoring and reporting in line with Embassy policies and procedures.
  • Contribute to the wider corporate business of the UK in Vietnam Network, including supporting and demonstrating key UKIV values.

Essential qualifications, skills and experience  

  • Strong organisational, research and project management skills;
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills, demonstrating familiarity with relevant communications and social media platforms including graphic designs;
  • Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, including with senior stakeholders;
  • Able to work independently and in a team, adaptability to work in changing environment;
  • Ability to meet deadlines with strong attention to consistency, detail, and quality;
  • Demonstrated experience with financial management – including budget forecasting and reporting;
  • Computer proficiency in standard software applications (MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Canva)
Language requirements: 
  • Language: Vietnamese and English – written and spoken
  • Level of language required: High proficiency

Desirable qualifications, skills and experience  

  • Interest and/or experience working in in climate, energy and/or nature themes
  • Relevant experience in working at a development agency, non-governmental organisation or diplomatic mission.
